Sustainability means economic growth, progress, economic development, pursuit of wealth,

happiness and prosperity but all the while, not compromising on the needs of the future
generations, our environment, our planetary eco- system and all the species of life co-existing
with us.

Sustainability is a principle that should guide humanity to be as integrated into natural Earthen
processes as possible. It's the only way we can sustain our civilization over time.

Humans, mine, consume, and then waste things. Sustainability means transforming that
framework into use-reuse-repurpose-disassemble. This way, our waste becomes food for new
products. Like in nature, nothing is wasted, yet what is done decomposes to become part of
something new.

Simply "moderate consumption" does not cut it. Sustainability is deeper than that. It's a larger,
stronger, more robust frame of accessing the way humans operate on Earth.

The Brundtland Report defined sustainable development as “development that meets the needs of
the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
Adopted in April 2006, Québec’s Sustainable Development Act adds the following to that
definition: “Sustainable development is based on a long-term approach which takes into account
the inextricable nature of the environmental, social and economic dimensions of development
activities.”

In other words, it means that you should not overuse resources available today because nature
and the environment are not an inexhaustible resource, therefore it is necessary to protect them
for the future generations. Sustainability promotes social development, seeking cohesion
between communities and cultures to achieve satisfactory levels in quality of life, health and
education. It also focuses on equal economic growth that generates wealth for all without
harming the environment.

This means finding better ways of recycling our current resources so they we don't continue
to extract virgin resources from the environment leading to depletion. Sustainability is also
demonstrated through the actions taken by individuals to reduce their carbon footprint by
using less energy whenever possible. Recycling, walking to work, carpooling, reusing
materials, and other environmentally responsible decisions contribute to what are known as
"sustainable lifestyle" choices.
Sustainable tourism is a way of traveling that leaves a minimum negative impact on the
places visited and preferably rather leaves a positive impact on society. To make it easy, I
will divide the term sustainable travel into three main areas; human welfare, animal welfare,
and nature preservation.

The overall goal of sustainable development is the long-term stability of the economy and
environment, this is only achievable through the integration and acknowledgement of
economic, environmental, and social concerns throughout the decision-making process.
