Interprofessional communication practice in intensive care unit – What are the

perceptions of Singapore nurses toward the interprofessional communication
with physicians. A cross-sectional research proposal.

1.Research Question
Collaboration between nurses and physicians is characterized as an informal and

interprofessional partnership in which nurses and physicians coordinate job priorities

and obligations for outcomes. The cornerstones of effective teamwork are open

dialogue, appreciation for diverse viewpoints, equitable decision-making capability, and

accountability for issue and clinical care leadership. In the past, relationships among

physicians and nurses in Singapore is bureaucratic, as is a global practice. Negative

views, aggressive behavior, and disruptive behavior exist within healthcare

professionals, particularly among physicians and nurses. [ CITATION Wil13 \l 1033 ].

According to studies, weak doctor-nurse working together/team effort will lead to

workplace frustration, a loss of control, a higher chance of leaving, and poor health.

Singapore hospital services have tried to act in the same way that worldwide health

providers have begun to listen carefully to nurse-doctor coordination. Singapore

hospital services have tried to chase after the same pattern as worldwide healthcare

professionals have started to pay priority to nurse-doctor coordination. [ CITATION Yvo14 \l

1033 ].Singapore hospital services have tried to chase after the same pattern as

worldwide healthcare professionals have started to pay attention to nurse-doctor

coordination. Most research on physician–nurse teamwork, to our knowledge, have

concentrated on private wards in Singapore, and all of them have assessed perceptions

rather than attitudes.[ CITATION Dia11 \l 1033 ]. Physicians in private clinics are most likely

to regard nurses as physician professionals, even though they do not need any nursing

knowledge. Interprofessional cooperation is a mechanism through which diverse social

care professional associations cooperate to deliver positive and high-quality treatment

to clients. It often entails constant coordination and engagement between healthcare

providers, and it recognizes the skills and contributions that different healthcare

practitioners contribute to patient care. The poor interprofessional collaboration will lead

to a drop in patient care satisfaction and hurt healthcare delivery. [ CITATION Mar10 \l

1033 ]. Donovan defines interprofessional care as "care provided by a network of

healthcare practitioners with overlapping expertise who recognize the unique role of

other team members as partners in achieving a mutual goal." It is crucial to understand

the perspectives of healthcare practitioners employed in the ICU to improve

interprofessional cooperation, especially in the ICU, where patients are chronically ill

and often need intrusive help.

This is important to gain a greater understanding of the problems and to produce ideas

and feedback that can help to improve interprofessional relationships, resulting in better

care outcomes for patients. What's more, this research aims to examine the different

problems that come up when working together with different types of healthcare experts

and, as a result, to produce recommendations for improving interprofessional

cooperation.[ CITATION Wil13 \l 1033 ]

2.Aim
More than just sharing knowledge, nurse-doctor contact establishes a shared

understanding within the healthcare team. It is described as a professional relationship,

working together/team effort, joint decision-making about health problems, and the

creation of a total (of everything or everyone) patient care (success plan(s)/way(s) of

reaching goals) in which the success of the whole team is (figured out the worth,

amount, or quality of).[ CITATION Wil13 \l 1033 ]. Knowledge must be moved (from one

place to another) in a plain/honest/easy and secure manner, with respect and pleasure,

to get the job done correctly. What matters is not just what is written, but also how it is

shared between the nurse and the (professional or skilled person). [ CITATION Mad18 \l

1033 ]

The causes of coordination breakdowns in health care are many. One of the main

factors observed to be adversely impacting nurse-doctor contact is doctors' behavior.

Nurses' inability to speak with doctors while they are rushed, doctors' failure to cope

with issues and consider/believe nurses' opinions, doctors' rudeness and disrespectful

conduct,Factors influencing nurse-doctor contact include interrupting nurses before they

complete their reports and becoming frustrated when interacting with doctors. [ CITATION

Eli17 \l 1033 ]

3.Objective
Interprofessional teams try to provide patients with meaningful and appropriately-timed

care, and working together/team effort is an aspect that affects their ability to do so.

Internal and external forces have been described by Klinzing and Klinzing11 as

interfering with the ability to participate in conversations or meetings Since the mind

soaks up (like a towel) words quicker than they can be spoken, thoughts can be formed

before the meaning has been delivered.[ CITATION Wil13 \l 1033 ]

People who want to do two or more things at once face split attention, which may make

it very hard to maintain focus at sessions. Distractors in the health of the Earth/the

surrounding conditions, such as mobile phones, hallway talk, and shuffled steps, may

cause attention to be (changed to focus on, or point at, a different direction).

Communication is a difficult process in which both the speakers and the listeners share

responsibility for its effectiveness. [ CITATION Mad18 \l 1033 ]

We've listed nine acts that will help interprofessional teams communicate more

effectively.

 USE ENGAGED LISTENING

 USE NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION

 BE CONCISE AND CLEAR

 BE PERSONABLE

 SPEAK WITH CONFIDENCE

 SHOW EMPATHY

 STAY OPEN-MINDED

 GIVE AND RECEIVE FEEDBACK

 CONSIDER THE MEDIUM

In hospital facilities, nurses and doctors are two of the most significant healthcare

specialist organizations. [ CITATION Dia11 \l 1033 ]

They perform independent and distinct roles in clinical practice, but they must

collaborate efficiently to provide meaningful medical care. Effective nurse-physician

contact is a two-way mechanism that requires the sender to deliver the proper

information while still being correctly interpreted and acknowledged by the recipient.

Effective nurse-physician contact has a significant impact on patient performance,

[ CITATION Wil13 \l 1033 ].including higher patient satisfaction. a shorter duration of stay,

and a reduction in negative experiences.

Ineffective nurse-physician contact, on the other hand, can jeopardize patient safety and

raise medical costs. According to the Joint Commission, two-thirds of sentinel cases in

healthcare were caused by a breakdown of coordination. For the security and quality of

health care, effective contact between nurses and physicians is critical. Identifying ways

to increase coordination between these two groups will provide proof for realistic

changes in the ICU, which would enhance patient care in the long run. However, no

study of measures to facilitate coordination among nurses and physicians in critical

conditions is accessible to our knowledge.[ CITATION Wil13 \l 1033 ]
