The Wankel Rotary engine

1 Introduction
The subject of the paper is the Wankel Rotary engine. The aspects discussed
will be it’s functionality, advantages and disadvantages.

2 The second section

The Wankel engine is an internal combustion engine in which the rotation of the
crankshaft is obtained through the rotation of the rotos.
The combustion cycle inside the wankel engine is obtained inside an oval cylinder (fig. 1)
and a triangular shaped rotor (fig.2).

The crankshaft (fig. 3) goes through the cesnter of the rotor and is held in place by by
bearings and gears fig.4).

The advantages of a Wankel engine are it’s reduced weight, the small number of moving
parts, reduced vibrations and increased power.
The disadvantages are reduced efficiency which leads to a greater fuel consumption and
reduced fiability due to wear of the seals in the tip of the rotor which leads to loss of
compression.
