WHAT IS LIVER CANCER?


Liver cancer, also known as Hepatocellular

carcinoma is a tumor which starts in the liver and

spreads around the body through the blood or lymph

system. Therefore forming new tumors in other parts

of the body (bones, lungs, heart, etc.). Liver cancer

typically affects people older than 50, though it can

occur at any age.

Skin and the sclera (white part of the eye)

starts turning yellow

Flu-like symptoms

Weight loss

Swollen stomach (not related to eating)

Itchy skin

Quit smoking

No alcohol consumption (as consuming alcohol directly

affects the liver)

Exercise regularly

Eat a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, different

types of meats and protein

RISK FACTORS
Diabetes

Obesity

Fatty liver disease

Chronic infection with HBV (hepatitis B

virus) or HCV (hepatitis C virus)

A past history of liver cancer

Alcohol and smoking

TREATMENTS
Liver transplant

Chemotherapy or radiation therapy

Ablation treatment

Destroys liver tumors without removing them

Good for patients with poor health or reduced liver

function
