The only wat to know Rizal is to read Rizal by Ambeth Ocampo

Prepared by: Genesis Leaño

There is a lot of books and articles about Rizal that have published yet this topic remains a
mediocre to some students. Reading Rizal related topics seems so hard since it has been a
repetitive topic since you started to go to school. So having the same topic as you go through the
progress of education from elementary to high school is a bit uninteresting since it becomes
repetitive. Our Department of education should find a way how to teach this topic to students in a
way that it will be interesting to learn. When I was in high school, our school have provided us a
Stage play to watch in partnership with Philippine Stagers Foundation which is a prominent
Stager’s agency. It is a musical regarding the life of Rizal entitled “Joe”. I still remember the title
and how the play goes. The play had scenes that books never told. Since we only know Rizal by
the books we have since elementary and sometimes the statements still the same. There are
stories that is still unpublished in normal books that students particularly use. But we should not
rely on this, there is still a lot of stories and writings, essay and letters Rizal have written that will
take you to a door of new understanding in his life. By just reading some of his letters, it shows
his character and personality, what he did and what he accomplished. Things that usual books
will not tell you. So, to know Rizal there’s a lot of ways but to know him better is to read Rizal.
