LEARNING TO LOOK for The TOPICS

What is a topic?

A Topic is a word or phrase ( a few words) that tells what something is about. For example, a
friend might ask you, ‘ What’s this book about?’ Your friend does not want to know everything
about the book. He or she just wants to know the topic. You would answer your friend with
something like, ‘ It’s about mountain climbing’, or ‘It’s about the Second World war.’

Another example hiw to decide a topic will be clearer if I ask you this. What is the most
interesting movie that you have seen lately? Say your answer is Contagion. Then, I ask you what
is it about? Your answer will be ‘It is about the spread of virus’ or, ‘It is about virus’ You can
see the answer could ‘The spread of virus’ You can see the answer is a phrase ( a few words) or
the answer could be ‘virus’ it is only a word (one word). Remember that ‘Topic’ is never
written in a complete sentence that consists of a subject, a verb and an object. Topic is only
written in a word or a phrase.
