Fiber-optic communication is a method of transmitting data on any device, including mobile phones, tablet computers, laptops,
from one place to another by sending pulses of light through and desktop systems. One of the most important features,
an optical fiber. The light forms an electromagnetic carrier however, is portability. The simulations can be carried out on any

III. ORIGIN AND OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL
In this time where the internet, data transmission and video
calling are dominating, the development of faster data rates is
crucial, and optical fiber systems are bound to play a very
important role in the future. This requires the production of
engineers with a relevant skillset. But the cost of optical fiber
kits for experiments and learning is a hindrance to education.
A GUI-based simulation tool is an excellent way to resolve
this issue and bridge the gap between industry needs and the
existing skillset.
IV. PROPOSED MODEL

Figure 3: Digital Output

2) 3) MATLAB GUI Model: - While the model is

created on Simulink, the formulae must run in the
background, eliminating the need to modify and
edit code to run the simulations. It creates a cleaner
visual look and allows a user unfamiliar with
programming to use the system with ease. By using
GUI layout various functions like pushbuttons ,edit
box can be created and by using callback function
it can be called to perform the function. The system
uses MATLAB GUI libraries to creates input
forms and shows a basic GUI model for
Figure 1: Basic Proposed Model propagation loss.

The optical fiber simulation relies on a model as shown in the

above figure, with the help of the basic formula for propagation
loss. It produces both analog and digital outputs. It displays the
analog output in a graphical form and the digital output in a
tabular form.
1)Analog Output: Fig. 2 denotes the analog output of the
propagation loss model. This analog output allows the user to
observe the output accurately. The x-axis denotes the kilometer
range while the y-axis denotes the power. It helps the user to
understand the inversely proportional relationship between
power and distance. The above model is created using
mathematical blocks of Simulink.

Figure 4: GUI Model

Figure 4 shows the GUI-based model for the propagation

loss. It consists of an input box and a 'Run' button. After
entering a value and pressing the 'Run' button, the calculation
of the output takes place in the backend. The output is shown
to the user in a graphical and digital form.
3) MATLAB WEB APP SERVER: -
Another important component of the system is the server. The
server allows the sharing of experiments and restricts their
unlicensed usage. It utilizes the MATLAB web app server. which
supports the hosting of Simulink experiments. The server also
provides access control. It allows the administrator of the server to

check the users and control the access of individual users.
1) 2) Digital Output: - While observing the output in an
analog fashion can give the individual a brief idea about
the characters, obtaining the exact reading can be difficult.
Therefore, getting a precise reading also plays an
important role in optical fiber communication. The system
creates output in a digital form where the user can get the
exact reading of the experiment.
