during this procedure.

Component: Brake Housing Sub-Assembly

Part Number: P/No: 5008884-1

Material: Aluminium Alloy

Area of Examination: Complete surface area of Housing Assembly.

Purpose of Examination: To detect surface and sub surface crack, material loss or corrosion.

Extent of Examination: All surface area, including bolt hole area particular attention on
piston seat area for linear cracks.

Equipment & Materials Required:

a) Eddy Current Flaw Detector (Single or Dual Frequency)

b) Test Probes :Shielded, Absolute NFe 100 KHz to 2 MkHz.
c) Calibration Block : Standard NFE 3 Notch EDM
d) Cable BNC to Microdot
e) 10X Magnification Glass
f) Vernier Calliper/ Ruler
g) PTFE\(Teflon) Tape
h) China Graph- Wax Pencil

Preparation & Equipment Checks:

Ensure surface is clean with a smooth surface finish. Visually inspect
to ensure component has no handling damage that could affect the
inspection interpretation.

Equipment Calibration: Ensure equipment pre use check have been carried out. Verify all
test equipment is in date calibration

Examination Procedure: ABSC NDT Manual: AP763 Chapter 32-42-03/ 05 and CMM .

Instrument Setting: Figure

Calibration Process : a) Adjust equipment setting as detailed above

b)Place probe on NFe reference Block and set lift off to 9 O’ Clock
position.
c) Ensure alarm box set to 60 percent.
d) Adjust gain to obtain signal just breaking alarm box at 4 main
scale division deflection from 0.5mm EDM slot.

Inspection Process : a) Set lift off in known good area on the component.
b) Carry out a series of line, edge, radial and circumference scan to
cover the area.
Assessment of Test Results : a) Assess all indications
b) Any spot deflection that cannot be attributed to geometry, probe
handling, change in conductivity or ferrous effect is to be
considered as a crack.
c) Detail size and orientation of defect.
d) Find end of crack and mark with wax pencil as reported.

Examination Standard : a) Any crack indication greater than 1mm considered as a crack
b) Any indication of material loss to be reported.

Reporting : Any discontinuity indication is to be reported to the Originator

quoting length and position of indication on component.
Component is to be considered unserviceable and these components
may be examined by a different NDT procedure (PT/ RT Inspection)
