Task 1 (20 points)

1. Distinguish the flat-topped and natural sampling method (5 points)

2. Explain the advance and disadvance of each method (5 points)

3. Plot the spectrum of the sampled signal by using the flat-topped and natural sampling methods
(10 points)

Task 2 (20 points)


1. Explain the purpose of the Nyquist sampling theory and the Nyquist response (5 points)

2. Calculate the minimum of sampling frequency of the signal with the bandwidth of 5MHz (5
points)

3. Draw the Nyquist response if the digital communication system is designed to follow the Raised
cosine filter with the the roll-off factor  = 0.5 (5 points)

4. In which case of roll-off factor, the system will have highest spectral efficiency? In such that case,
which drawback the system should have? (5 points)

Task 3 (20 points)

1. Draw the block diagrams of I/Q modulator and I/Q demodulator and explain the functions of them
[10 points]

2. Explain the purpose of the LPF in the schme of the I/Q demodulator (10 points)

Task 4 (20 points)


Given a digital communication system using the unipolar NRZ . The system sufers from the additive
Gaussian noise wht the SNR of 5 dB. Calculate the BER of the system.
Task 5(20 points)

Calculate the BER of a digital communication system using the QPSK modulation scheme, suppose that
the channel is Gaussian channel with the SNR of 5 dB.
