• The power supply also generates a “Power Good” signal 200 to

500ms after the correct voltage levels are reached, indicating that the
power supply is healthy.

• The “Power Good” signal goes low if the AC Power fails or an Over /
Under voltage condition is detected on any of the DC outputs.

• These conditions may also be caused by an intermittent poor quality

AC input.

• A bi-colour SOH (State of Health) LED mounted close to the power

supply on the ATM frame indicates the power supply state of health
and a nearby test connector (a.k.a. feature connector), allows easy
access to check the DC voltages, as shown in the following diagram.

The SOH LED colour indicates the following power supply conditions:

GREEN - Power supply operation is normal.

RED - DC voltages not reached specified operating level

after power up.

FLASHING RED - Over current condition on one or more DC output

voltages. Possible short in harness or at device.
Possible PSU failure

OFF - Power supply failed / Fuse blown / No AC input.

• The power supply should survive a long term short on any or all of it’s
DC outputs but will need to be powered down for anything between
ten and thirty seconds, to recover before powering back up.

• The power supply has it’s own fan to maintain an acceptable

operating temperature and will shut down if the fan fails or if air
circulation is otherwise compromised.

Common Faults

1. ATM dead / External fuse has blown

• AC Line fuse has blown.

• Worth trying a replacment fuse

(6.3A for 230v operation) but if
it blows again the PSU will
almost certainly need to be
changed.

2. ATM dead / Internal fuse has blown

• PSU internal fuse has blown.

• The location of the internal fuse

(may be one or two) will vary
according to PSU type.

• The cause will almost certainly

be an internal PSU failure and
the PSU will probably need to
be replaced.

3. Incorrect power at device or test plug / P1 connector problem

• Voltage drop due to problems
at P1 connector.

• Clean P1 edge connector with

scotchbrite pad or fibreglass
pencil.

• Ensure P1 housing is clean

before reinstalling the PSU.

4. Intermittent power failure / PSU fan failed causing overheating
• PSU shuts down due to
overheating.

• Check operation of the fan and

if defective, replace the fan
where possible rather than the
PSU.

5. Continual resets / SOH LED is flashing

• Short in harness or at device
causes PSU to reset.

• Isolate fault by disconnecting

devices.

• This is often caused by In

service indicator / fascia lighting
faults.

• Harness damage is often found

under the printers, card reader,
or near the operator panel.

6. No power after PSU replaced / Voltage selector not set

• PSU is not autoranging type
and Input voltage selector was
not set to the correct AC range.

• If range is set to 120v but ATM

is connected to a standard UK
230v AC supply, the PSU will
have been damaged on power
up.

• Replace PSU
