Procedure

ACTIVITY I – Warmer – I’m hungry. Feed me ….. Game (group work)

Aim: to warm students up


Time: 5min.
Procedure: The teacher sticks a poster on the board representing a monster. The students
get coloured post-its. The students, in 3 groups, have to “feed” the monster with as many
“food items” as possible. They have to write on each post – it a food item, run to the
blackboard and stick it on the monster. They have 2 minutes to do that. The teacher reads
out the food items written on the post-its and decides with the whole class which are
correct and which are not. The group with the most correct food items wins.

ACTIVITY II – SPEAKING – Do you like….? (group work)

Aim: to reinforce expressing likes/dislikes


Time: 10 min.
Procedure: Students get in groups of five. They get a pile of cards with food and drinks.
They have to pick a card and ask the student on their left “Do you like….?” and the
student must answer. “Yes, I do. I like…” or “ No, I don’t. I don’t like…”
e.g. S1: Do you like vegetables?
S2: Yes, I do. I like vegetables./ No, I don’t. I don’t like vegetables. (picks a card)
Do you like cereal?
S3: Yes, I do. I like cereal. /No, I don’t. I don’t like cereal. (picks a card)
The teacher checks some answers.
e.g. T: Who likes cereal?
S1: Maria does. Or Maria likes cereal.

ACTIVITY III – SPEAKING – How much … is there? / How many …are


there? A lot/ a few/ a little (pair work)

Aim: to practise using countable and uncountable nouns with quantities.


Time: 10 min
Procedure: Students get in pairs. The teacher gives them a worksheet. They ask and
answer about the quantities of the food in the fridge.
e.x. S1: How many tomatoes are there in the fridge?
S2: A lot. / There are a lot of tomatoes in the fridge. How many carrots are there in
the fridge?
S1: A few. / There are a few carrots in the fridge.
Some students report to the class.

ACTIVITY IV – SPEAKING – You should / shouldn’t eat (group work)

Aim: to practise giving advice what they should / shouldn’t eat a lot
Time: 15 min
Procedure: There groups are made. The teachers tell the students they are “doctors” and
they need to make a poster with what food people should or must eat a lot and what food
people shouldn’t or mustn’t eat a lot. The students get a poster, magazines, scissors and
glue. They have to cut, paste and write food items and divide them into two groups
(must/should eat a lot vs. mustn’t/shouldn’t eat a lot). The students present their posters
to the class.

ACTIVITY V – How much… / how many… – (pair work) (extra activity)

Aim: to practise asking and answering about food and quantities.


Time: 7 min.
Procedure: The students get in pairs. The teacher sticks a poster representing food items
and drinks on the board. The students must ask each other questions about what food they
eat and the quantity and what drinks they drink and the quantity.
e.g. S1: How much pizza do you eat?
S2: I eat a lot of pizza. or I eat a little pizza. How many burgers do you eat?
S1: I eat a lot of burgers. or I eat a few burgers. Etc.
Some students play their part in front of the classroom as example.

ACTIVITY VI - Evaluation and homework assignment

Aim: to evaluate the Ss. work

Procedure: Students have to write what they have for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
e.g. I have / eat bread and butter/cereal with milk for breakfast.
