LESSON PLAN

English 4 - Unit 13: Would you like some milk?

Lesson 1 (1, 2, 3)

A. OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

1. Knowledge:

- Asking and answering about favourite food and drink.

2. Skills:

- Develop listening and speaking skills.

3. Competences:

- Oral Communication: speak about names, ask and answer the questions

- Co-operation: ready to help friends in pair work/ group work.

- Sociability: Talk to each other, say good words to others.

4. Attitude/ Qualities:

- Learn to concentrate on the lesson, listen carefully, and express ideas during
the lesson.

- Be confident in communicating with friends and others.

- Vocabulary: food, drink, beef, pork, water, orange juice, fish, chicken, milk

Activity 1: Warm-up: 5 minutes


*Aims: to help Ps review the words family they learned as well as
motivate and link to the new lesson.

Spend a few minutes revising the previous lesson by Whole class


asking the class to sing the song My family and clap
their hands
PRESENTATION - Activity 2: Look, listen and repeat: 10 minutes
*Aim: to present new words and sentence patterns and help students be
familiarized with the expressions of asking and answering about food and
drink.

- Ask Ss to look at the 4 pictures on page 18 and elicit Individual


these answers for these questions:
+ Who are they?
+ Where are they?
+ What are they saying?
(Tom and Mai are in the canteen. In picture a, Tom
asks Mai about her favourite food, using What’s your
favourite food? And Mai answers It’s fish. In picture b,
Mai asks about Tom’s favourite food, using How about
you? In Pictures c and d, they continue to ask each
other about their favourite drink.) Check
comprehension.
- Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen Whole class
and follow in their books.
- Play the recording again for Ss repeat the dialogue
several times( line by line in the bubbles).
- Point to the picture for Ss to read the dialogue again

● Pre-teach Vocabulary:
Individual
- Elicit the new words by asking the pupils to look at
the pictures and then guess the name of each picture:
beef, pork, orange juice, water.

Steps of presenting new vocabulary:


- Elicit the word “beef” by using picture (flashcard) and
asking: What is it?
- Say the word out loud clearly 2-3 times and show the
word if needed.
- Conduct choral and individual repetition with each
word for 2-3 times.
- Have students repeat the word and check their
pronunciation of the new word.
Teacher repeats the same steps of pre-teaching the
other new words: pork, orange juice, water.
Vocabulary checking:
Aim: to check pupils’ understanding and/or ability to
use the newly learned words
Introduce the game: What is missing? Whole class

Show the pictures of 4 new words and tell Ss to look at


them. Ask them to close their eyes and take one picture
away. When Ss opens their eyes, ask them to guess
what is missing.
Individual
● Presenting model sentences:
- Ask ss to look at the pictures to identify the food and
drink.
- Point to the picture a and elicit the class to fill in the
gap. Put the sentence on the board:
What’s your favourite.......?/ It’s....... and have Ss
repeat them several times.
- Check the form/ use/ meaning/ intonation
Whole class
- Have Ss copy down in their note books

PRACTICE - Activity 3: Listen and tick


- Tell pupils that they are going to listen to three Individual
dialogues about some children’s favourite food and
drink and tick the correct pictures.
- Have them look at the pictures to identify the food
and drink (1a. Chicken. 1b.Fish. 1c.Beef. 2a. Milk. 2b.
Apple juice. 2c. Orange juice. 3a. Chicken and orange
juice. 3b. Chicken and milk. 3c. Beef and water.)
Check understanding.
- Play the recording more than oce, if necessary. Ask
pupils to listen to the recording and tick the correct
pictures. Tell them to focus on the food and drink.
- Get pupils to swap their answers before you check as
a class. Monitor the activity and offer help, if
necessary.
