GETTING STARTED
A. AIM:
1. KNOWLEDGE: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to
- Use lexical items related to the topic “food and drink”.
2. SKILLS:
- Read for specific information about food and drink.
- Talk about favourite food and drink
3. ATTITUDE: - Work hard, co-operate
4. QUALITY: living self-confidently, independently, responsibly in learning
5. Anticipated problems:
- There may not be enough time for all activities.
- Ss may have difficulties understanding the meaning of some words  teacher
pays attention to them and offers help.
- They might not focus on and participate actively in activities because they feel
less interesting  Teacher gives clues as necessary as possible or make
motivation for Ss by giving them positive reinforcements and good marks.
B. PROCEDURE:
1. PREPARATION:
- Teacher: textbook, projector, computer
- Students: textbook, notebooks.
2. CLASS STABILIZATION:
- Greeting, check SS’ attendance, notebooks, textbooks, environmental
condition.

- Put food and drink on the table: rice, bread, cake, candy, milk, class
water, coca cola
- Elicit the names of food and drink and read aloud.
- Divide the class into2 teams.
- Invite 5 Ss of each team to go to the board to play the game
- Say: “I want to eat.” “You have to show food then say aloud the
name of this food.”
“I want to drink.” “You have to show a drink then say aloud T-whole
the name of this drink.” class
“Which team shows food/drink the fastest and correctly will
get 1 mark.”
- Check instruction: “If I say I want to eat but you show Water. So,
is it true?”
- Have Ss play the game
Lead-in: “Throughout the game, you will distinguish between food and
drink. For example: Coca cola, milk are drink. Bread and rice are food.”

“Today we learn about food and drink topic in unit 5 Vietnamese food
and drink , lesson 1: Getting started.”

15’ Read the conversation and answer the questions:
- Ask Ss to work in individual. Individual
- Divide class into 2 teams to play “Lucky face” game Group
- “Fistly, choose a face you like, if there are questions you have to work
answer, if there is lucky face, you will get 1 mark and continue to choose
other.”
Key:
1. Because his parents are going to the opera tonight and they won’t be
home until 9 p.m.
2. There’s dome rice left from lunch.
3. Phong should warm it up.
4. She’ll buy some milk tomorrow.
5. He can have some orange juice instead of milk.

15’ * Game: Guess food and drink
- Put food and drink on the table: green tea, coca cola, lemonade, orange
juice, milk, cake, mineral water, bread, candy, beef noodle soup, rice.
- Elicit the names of food and drink and read aloud.
- Elicit tastes of food and drink: “bitter, delicious, sour, sweet, spicy,
salty.”
- Have Ss work in pairs. One student describes food or drink and other Pairwork
student guesses which food or drink it is.
- Invite some pairs to go to the board to play. They are blindfold. One
student touch, drink, or eat one food or drink and describe it. Other
student guesses it.
- Which pair describe and guess correctly will get 1 mark
- Check instruction: “Can you say in English or Vietnamese?
