Lesson: Lunchtime!
Type of the lesson: systematization and revision of knowledge
Vocabulary: fish, chips, chicken, rice, cheese cake, cereals, water, milk, orange juice,
coke, apple pie, ice-cream, pizza and the linguistic structure: I like and I don’t like.
Skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking.
General competences:
- to show interest in gaining new information about likes and dislikes;
- to understand essential information from a text;
Objectives: By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:
1. Identify food items;
2. Read and speak about food, likes and dislikes
3. Acquire new vocabulary and learn the verb “to like” – present simple affirmative,
negative and interrogative
4. Use the words and the structure in different contexts.
Assumptions:
1. The pupils may already know some of the words related to food and drinks;
2. The pupils will have difficulties in retaining all the new words;
Anticipating problems:
There might be vocabulary problems: chicken, rice, ice-cream, cereals and pie.
The Ss may not understand some oral commands or tasks; if this happens, they will be
translated into Romanian.
Solutions: - visual aids to help them learn the words;
- explanation given by the teacher;
- the repetition of words.
Teaching aids: blackboard, flipchart, digital book, laptop, video projector, CD,
flashcards, wall poster, coloured chalk, handouts.

I. Warm-up:

Aim: to prepare the pupils for the lesson and create the atmosphere
Procedure: The teacher greets the pupils and tells them that it is a special day
for them because they will have special guests.
Interaction : T-Ss
Timing : 2’

II. Lead in:


Aim: to introduce the topic and to set the context.
Procedure: The teacher announces the topic. After writing the title on the
blackboard, the teacher starts the lesson with a song related to food and drinks
(Do you like ice-cream?).
The pupils repeat through a song some words about food and drinks and at the
same time, become familiar with the structure: Do you like…?

III. Presentation:
Activity 1: Listening- Speaking
Aims: -to introduce the new words to the students – fish, chips, chicken, rice,
cheese cake, cereals, water, milk, orange juice, coke, apple pie, ice-cream,
pizza;
-to learn a new structure: Give me the cheese cake, please!
Procedure:
 The teacher sticks on the blackboard coloured pieces of paper with some
of the words (fish, chips, cheese cake, pizza)
 In pairs, the pupils are encouraged to ask questions and give answers
using the structure: Do you like…? Eight pupils come in front of the
class and choose some of the words from the blackboard. One pupil
makes the question and the other one answers. The teacher elicits the
question form and drills it with the short answers.
 The teacher introduces the new structure: Give me the cheese cake,
please! The pupils have to repeat after the teacher in chorus and
individually. After that, another eight pupils come in front of the class
and make sentences using the new structure.

IV. Practice:
Activity 2: Reading comprehension
Aims: -to get the pupils involved in the story from the handout
-to read a short text and recognize the words
Procedure:
 First, there will be a model reading realized by the teacher followed by
oral drill (the pupils repeat after the teacher in chorus and individually).
If possible, two or three pupils will act out the text. The teacher tries to
involve as many pupils as possible.

Activity 3: Reading - Writing


Aims: - to distinguish between food and drinks
-to learn how to give short answers Yes, I do/ No, I don’t
Procedure:
 The teacher sticks on the blackboard coloured papers with food and a
large poster where it is written I eat and I drink. The pupils have to place
the words in the right box. The teacher highlights the differences
between the verbs eat and drink.
 After the exercise, the teacher will assess the pupils. The teacher will
name a few pupils to read the words from the box I eat and others to
read the words from the box I drink.

V. Production:
Activity 4: Recognizing and speaking
Aim: -to be able to ask and answer questions using the structures practiced in
the
lesson
-to write down correctly all the sentences from the digital book.
Procedure:
 Pupils work both on their notebook and on the black board. Some of
them come in front of the class and write their answers on the
blackboard. The teacher assesses the pupils’ understanding by asking
them to give short answers. The teacher will check the pupils’ notebooks
where it is supposed they will have written the following sentences:
a) Do you like milk? Yes, I do/ No, I don’t.

b) Do you like fish and chips? Yes, I do/ No, I don’t.


c) Do you like chicken and rice? Yes, I do/ No, I don’t.
d) Do you like orange juice? Yes, I do/ No, I don’t.
e) Do you like ice-cream? Yes, I do/ No, I don’t.

VI. Homework
The teacher draws conclusions about the pupils’ activity during the class and
explains the homework for the next English class. They will have to put in order
some words to make sentences.
