Procedures and logbook

A list of procedures to undertake in the department is attached. Please ask a doctor or clinical
officer (not a nurse) to countersign each procedure when you have successfully carried it out or
observed it (in case of chest drains and suprapubic catheters).

Your logbook must be signed weekly by your ward consultant.

Your log book (to include your short cases and CBDs with the mark recorded in this log book,
clinics record, on-call log, procedure list) must be put inside the year coordinators pigeon-hole
in the annex by 5pm, the last Tuesday of your attachment.

You may not have the opportunity to perform all of these procedures, but take every
opportunity to watch, assist or do practical procedures while you are attached to Surgery. You
must have performed/observed two thirds of these listed procedures to pass surgery.
