Arnis had it`s strong tattoo-like marks and shiny surface. It is made of “Rattan” wood and is
lightweight. We use it as an activity and play with it, pretending it was a sword. It`s look is strong and it
has a fiery aura, one that wants to fight. It`s color is just like our strong skin that swords could not pierce.
Arnis specializes in martial art that represents the art of moment and fighting. With a Strong fighter, Arnis
was designed as a killer weapon.
Traveling from the past, we had been mentioned about the fight between Magellan and Lapu-lapu.
One fact untold, this weapon was one of the weapons used during the first Spanish colonization. In the
past, Filipinos had designed it with a symbol of strength and crafted it with passion. Arnis was never just
a weapon to Filipinos, it is an art. It signifies our concept of art in the manner of movement, and fighting.
It`s movements are graceful, and accurate.
The warrior who grasps it has strong arms, strong self and strong fitness. He will sway it with strong
emotion in a graceful manner. He will connect the weapon to his heart feel that he is one with it.
Moreover, it does not end with the visuals and feelings. It has our indigenous memory in it. Through this
weapon, we would be able to understand that we are not mere Filipinos who are easily manipulated by the
others. We will see this memory as our strength that does not bow to any other kind. Seeing this artifact,
we will know that it truly belongs to us. How would you know that this artifact represent our artistic
concept as Filipinos? By becoming a warrior, grasping it and fighting with it, you shall know and see.
Experience who we really are, remember our past memories and loved heroes. Know thyself and you will
find what you seek. Lastly, how will you become a warrior depends on you.
