How to count in Korean – 2.

Pure-Korean

하나 (Hah-nah) 둘 (dool) 셋 (set) 넷 (net) 다섯 (dah-sut)

여섯 (yu-sut) 일곱 (il-goh-p) 여덟 (yu-dul) 아홉 (ah-hoh-p) 열 (yul)

11-19 = ten plus one, ten plus two, ten plus three…ten plus nine.
20 = 스물 (swmool), 30 = 서른 (sureun), 40 = 마흔 (mah hweun), 50 = 쉰 (shin), 60 = 예순 (yesoon), 70 = 일흔 (il hweun), 80 = 여든 (yu deun), 90 = 아흔 (ah hweun),
100 = 백 (baek)

How to count more than twenty: Example: 21 = 스물 하나 (20+1), 55 = 쉰 다섯 (50+5)


How to count in Korean – 2. Sino-Korean

일 (il) 이 (ee) 삼 (sah-m) 사 (sah) 오 (oh)

육 (yook) 칠 (chil) 팔 (pah-l) 구 (goo) 십 (ship)

11-99: This is how you count:


For example, 21 = (2x10) + 1 = (이 x 십) + 일 = 이십 일

303 = (3x100) + 3 = (삼 x 백) + 삼 = 삼백 삼

*Instead of gae, you can also apply other units such as (myung for people, mari for animals.)

When you count in Korean and you want to say, “one apple,” you say it in this order: apple + one + thing (sah -gwa han gae).
