Reading and Listening
1. Listen and read Amy Winehouse´s biography.

https://famouspeoplelessons.com/a/amy_winehouse.mp3

Amy Jade Winehouse was an English singer and songwriter. She was
known for her marvelous voice and controversial private life. She
debuted in 2003 at the age of 20 with the album ‘Frank’. It set her on
the road to fame. Music lovers everywhere were excited about her
talents and how her career would progress. She was one of music’s
hottest stars but constantly battled against drugs and alcohol.

1
She grew up in a family that loved jazz. Her musical talents were
clear to see from a very young age. Aged ten, she formed a rap
group called Sweet 'n' Sour with a childhood friend. She got her first
guitar when she was 13 and she began writing music. She signed to a
major record label after they heard her distinctive voice.

Winehouse’s second album “Back To Black” made her an acclaimed

international star. She won dozens of awards, including five at the
2008 Grammy’s. Some of the biggest names in rock were waiting to
collaborate with her. George Michael said: "Amy is the best female
vocalist I have ever heard in my entire career, as well as one of the
best writers."

Winehouse was constantly the focus of media attention. She couldn’t

escape the reporters who followed her every move. She has given
them good reason to write about her. Her battles with drug and
alcohol abuse and her self-destructive behaviour was often tabloid
news. The world has lost an amazing talent who had so much more
incredible music to offer. She died in July, 2011, aged 27.

"Back To Black"

……………….. his dick wet
With his same old safe bet
Me and my head high
And my tears dry
Get on without my guy

You …………. back to what you …………..

So far ………………. from all that we ………….. through
And I tread a troubled track
My odds are stacked
I'll go back to black

We only ………….. goodbye with words

I …………… a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...

I go back to us

I love you much

It's not enough
You love blow and I love puff
And life is like a pipe
And I'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside

We only ……….. goodbye with words

I ……………… a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...

We only ……… goodbye with words

I ………….. a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...

Black, black, black, black, black, black, black

I go back to...
I go back to...

5
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...

We only said goodbye with words

I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to black

This song tells about Amy Winehouse's breakup with her boyfriend Blake
Fielder-Civil. She said to the Sun newspaper in October 2006, "'Back to Black' is

Los Angeles, August 12th

Mrs. Wilson
College Michel Served

11
2 avenue Jules Ferry
74100 Annemasse
France
Dear Mrs. Wilson,

I hope you’re well. Here, everything is fantastic! California is so great! It’s only
my second week in the USA and I have seen so many things already!
In Los Angeles, I have visited the Universal Studios which are the most visited
attraction in LA. It was very interesting! What I have preferred was “the King Kong 3D
experience”. It’s the world’s largest 3D screen: 12 meters high by 46 meters long! Can
you imagine? It was so impressive!
In Hollywood, I also have walked along the Walk of Fame. It was wonderful, I
felt like a star myself! I have been to Las Vegas too! I have not won the big prize in
casino though…
In Colorado, I have already visited the Grand Canyon which is the largest
canyon in the world. It was such a scary experience! Imagine walking on a glassed
terrace, 1.2 km over the Grand Canyon!
Then I have spent 3 days hiking in the Grand Canyon. You must get up very
early to hike because at 11 am it’s already 38°C! Though, it was not as hot as in the
Death Valley. Do you know that it is the hottest place on Earth? Luckily I have come
back from the Death Valley and I have not seen any snakes or coyotes over there.
I have not been to San Francisco yet. I will visit the city next week. I can’t wait
to discover more marvels!
I hope to see you in September!
Your pupil,

Daniel
