IELTS Speaking Part 2 – Describe a family member that you spend most
time with

You should say:

– Who this person is
– What you like to do together
– When you usually spend time together
– And explain why you spend so much time with him/her

Cấu trúc câu hay dùng

 He/ She is definitely…………….

 The reason I admire his/her is………

 It’s pretty hard to pinpoint one out but if I have to, I would like to describe ………..

 To describe how he/she influenced me,……..

 He/ She taught me……….

 I am going to talk about my mom – a person I spend the most time with. Her
name is Ngoc Diep, which can be literally translated into English as ‘Golden
Leave’. Although she was already in her early sixties, she looked pretty
much younger with a fine figure and, surprisingly, not a lot of wrinkles and
grey hair to be found. She really knows how to dress smartly, and that was
why my dad fell for her the very moment he laid his eyes on her when they
were younger (laugh).
 One of the things that most impressed me about her was the fact that she still
remained perfectly exuberant and charismatic, which was quite rare for
elderly people at her age. We do a lot of window-shopping every weekend,
and every once in a while I and my mom go to the cinema for some musicals
and romantic movies we both love.
 As a young woman myself, I often confide in her whenever I have
problems. Whether it betrivial matters at work or big life decisions, I
always turn to her for advice. It is not an overstatement to say that without
her, my life would be a huge mess.

2. Cách trả lời dạng câu hỏi đưa ra sự lựa chọn

trong Topic Media
Về cơ bản, dạng câu hỏi yêu cầu đưa ra sự lựa chọn (chọn A hay là B) thì vẫn là
câu hỏi HỎI QUAN ĐIỂM CỦA EM LÀ GÌ? vậy nên cách trả lời dễ nhất, khó bị
sai hoặc lạc đề là chọn 1 cái, sau đó cho lí do và ví dụ vào, nhớ công thức:
Main idea >> Supporting idea >> Example
Do you prefer watching sports events on TV or live?
Personally, I prefer watching sports on TV simply because it is more time-saving
and inexpensive than watching them live. For example, if I go to see them on the
site, I may have to spend more time and money. More importantly, I may not be
able to see the game in close-up or from all angles due to the distance.
Besides, main idea 2 (nếu cảm thấy còn hơi ngắn có thể trả lời thêm 1 ý nữa, rồi
cho ví dụ và giải thích ra)
Do you prefer reading an electronic book or a real book?
Personally, I prefer reading electronic books mainly because it is more convenient
than reading real books when I can download thousands of e-books onto my e-
reader. In fact, if I take a train, I can flip through a random book with only my
fingertip on my phone screen to kill time. Besides, ebooks are free of charge (cũng
nêu ví dụ và giải thích ra)

Well, it depends
For …, I consider…..is quite popular for them (Supporting idea>> Example)
Yet, for …., I guess they might have a fancy for….. (Supporting idea >> Example)

How do TV programmes influence children?
Personally, I believe that today’s TV programmes have a great influence on
children
Firstly, they bring knowledge and information to children to help them understand
the outside world. Through programmes like Animal world, their horizon can be
broadened
Besides, their imagination and creativity are also boosted with shows like cartoons,
puppet shows, or fairy tale shows when they can develop a sense of beauty and a
sense of morality. (Cho ví dụ ra)

Describe a book you read recently

Actually I could describe myself as a bookworm and I spend most of
my free time reading books about linguistics, which is my major. To
make a description about an interesting book that I read recently, it
definitely is The official guide to IELTS published by Cambridge
publisher.
I decided to take the IELTS test for my studying purpose
and struggled with finding a real page turner that can help IELTS
learners gain a deep understanding about this exam as well as have a
good source to practice with actual tests. As the recommendation of
my close friend who is a high IELTS scorer, I bought this book at a
bookstore near my university.

The target readers of this book are learners at intermediate level. It

includes two main parts, with the first part including all basic
information, sharing, tips and short exercices to combat different
question types in all four skills. I was quite impressed by some videos
illustrating the IELTS Speaking procedure this book has. The second
part is a combination of eight full tests for students to practice
before sitting a real exam.

I read it from cover to cover and realized it one of the most reliable

and useful books I have ever read in my life. I couldn’t put it
down since I could not only increase my confidence but also widen my
knowledge. I see my time management skills improve much and hope
that I can pass this exam with flying colors.

All in all, if someone asks me a book to prepare for this test, I

think The official guide to IELTS will be my first choice.VIE
Describe a book that you would like to read again
You should say:

 What the book was about

 Why you read it the first place
 What you learned from this book
And explain why you would like to read it again.

Band 8 Sample
Okay so I would like to tell you about the book called Harry Potter,
which is a fantasy novel, written by the British author J. K. Rowling.
It’s one that I can reread time and time again.

The book describes the life of a young wizard named Harry Potter and
his two best friends, Ron and Hermione. Harry has to struggle to kill
the Dark wizard Lord Voldemort, whose aim is to
become immortal and destroy all those who stand in his way of ruling
the world.

The reason why this book comes to mind is that it is a reminder of my

childhood. It was a gift for my birthday from my parents to reward my
high score in an exam at school. Up until now, I can still remember
clearly how fascinated I was when I received it.

Thanks to this book, I realized that determination and effort play

essential roles in achieving my goals. Since then, I have always
worked hard to overcome all obstacles and challenges in my life.

Harry Potter will always be on my to-read list for a number of reasons.

Firstly, I have always been a great admirer of science fiction books so
I love the way that the author describes the whole magical world with
the magic school, Hogwarts, and the flying brooms. Secondly, reading
this book not only helps me to relax after a long day of work or study
but also cheers me up whenever I am feeling blue.
