Assignment 4
A private charter flight operation on a helicopter has to be commenced from Islamabad
International Airport (OPIS) to Chitral Airport (OPCH) under the visual flight rules. The
elevation at OPIS is 537m / 1761ft whereas the elevation of OPCH is 1500m / 4920ft. The
highest point en route OPIS to OPCH is a 10,000 feet peak in mountainous terrain. Chitral
airport is located at 149 nm away from Islamabad on bearing 338o. Magnetic declination
(variation) at Islamabad is 2.18o east of True North.

Considering the minimum heights above an elevation of fewer than 5000 ft should be no less
than 1000ft AGL and above the elevation of 5000 feet, the minimum height of the aircraft should
be no less than 2000 feet AGL while cruising. The local pressure at OPIS is 1020 hPa and at
OPCH the local pressure is 1034 hPa. The runway heading at OPCH is 025o.

Hence,

As we know that the heights of the airports added together are

1761+4920=6681ft

So, as we are flying VFR we will be selecting even flight levels with +500 in all values.

so the lowest flight level will be 8500ft to satisfy the east to west rule as well.
