GRAMMAR

In this lesson, we'll cover the usage of "‫( "إﻧﺠﻠﺘﺮا ﻣﻦ ﻫﻮ‬huwa min 'inglaterra). The first word " ‫("ﻫﻮ‬huwa)

means "he." The second word " ‫( " ﻣﻦ‬min) means "from." The last word " ‫'( "إﻧﺠﻠﺘﺮا‬inglaterra) means

"England." Literally, " ‫( "إﻧﺠﻠﺘﺮا ﻣﻦ ﻫﻮ‬huwa min 'inglaterra) means "he from England." Note the absence of

the verb "to be" in the sentence. We can replace " ‫ "إﻧﺠﻠﺘﺮا‬with other country names and make new

sentences. For example, "‫( "أﻟﻤﺎﻧﻴﺎ ﻣﻦ ﻫﻮ‬huwa min 'almaanyaa) and it means "he's from Germany."

Another example is: " ‫( "ﻛﻨﺪا ﻣﻦ ﻫﻮ‬huwa min kanada) and it means "he's from Canada." Now, let's replace

"he" (huwa) with "she" (hiya) and look at some sentences. "‫( " ﻓﺮﻧﺴﺎ ﻣﻦ ﻫﻲ‬hiya min faransaa) means

"she's from France." ‫( " اﻟﻴﺎﺑﺎن ﻣﻦ ﻫﻲ‬hiya min 'al-yaabaan) means "she's from Japan." There is a list of

countries in the vocabulary section. Can you try to make sentences using different country names in

Arabic?

CULTURAL INSIGHT

Tourism is booming in the Middle East region thanks to the bargain hotels and the construction of

fabulous new hotels. A country that readily comes to mind is the United Arab Emirates, and more

specifically Dubai. In fact, the hotel industry is the fastest growing industry in this region. Dubai, namely

continues to attract millions of visitors looking for unlimited sunshine and luxury accommodation at a

bargain. Dubai plans to increase even more its reputation as a world-class tourist heaven with the future

opening of Dubailand theme park, the Middle East answer to Disneyland Florida.
