Therapy Session

FADE IN:

INT. THERAPIST OFFICE - DAY

DR. DOLVIO sitting alone in his office at his desk, a laptop

and notepad in front of him. His phone chimes, and he looks
at it for a moment, before an agitated expression crosses his
face. He turns his phone back off and slams it onto the desk.

BETH timidly enters the office.

BETH
Excuse me, is this Dr. Dolvio's
office?

DR. DOLVIO
Yes, please, come in. You're Ms.
Bombardo, right?

BETH
Yeah, but I'd prefer to just be
called Beth.

DR. DOLVIO
(Gesturing to sofa)
Alright, Beth. Take a seat.

Beth walks over and sits down, getting settled after a

moment. However, she's fidgeting quite a bit.

DR. DOLVIO (CONT'D)

(to himself, but
still loudly)
Yikes...

Dr. Dolvio looks around for a moment, before clapping loudly,

which startles Beth.

DR. DOLVIO (CONT'D)

So. What's wrong with you?

BETH
P-Pardon me?

DR. DOLVIO
I mean, you're new to therapy,
right? So what got you here?

BETH
I... I mean, to be honest, I
didn't really even want to try
therapy in the first place. I'm
only doing this because my
friends think I need help.

DR. DOLVIO
To be fair, you do seem like you
need it. Wait a sec, if you
didn't wanna come here, then why
are you wasting my time? I have
clients who are actually
confident in my abilities, you
know.

BETH
(Fumbles words)
No, I-I didn't mean-–

DR. DOLVIO
(Cuts them off again)
I'll have you know I have three
PhDs! THREE!!

BETH
Huh? There's more than one kind
of psychology PhD??

Dr. Dolvio pauses for a moment.

DR. DOLVIO
(Unnervingly
hesitant, slowly)
Yeeessssss......

BETH
Well you're the expert, I
guess...

DR. DOLVIO
While that may be true, that's
beside the point. You're screwed
in the head, and I'm here to fix
it. So, again, what's wrong with
you?

BETH
Well... I feel like I always
cause unnecessary problems.
Especially with my friends. Then
again, it's not JUST them I'm
worried about. Like, they always
seem to get annoyed with me, and
I feel like I'm just-–

Dr. Dolvio's phone suddenly starts ringing, with his

obnoxious ringtone blaring. He takes out his phone, and
answers it.

DR. DOLVIO
(Holding up one
finger)
One second, I gotta take this.
Hey, what's up, Ma? ...Huh?
...Okay, and? I don't care about
some stupid game tournament!
...Wait- He won HOW MUCH?? Wha-
HEY!! I AM SUCCESSFUL! I'LL HAVE
YOU KNOW, I'M A GREAT THERAPIST!
ISN'T THAT RIGHT, BRITNEY??

Beth opens her mouth to speak, but doesn't get the chance
before Dolvio continues.

DR. DOLVIO
SEE?? I DON'T NEED SOME DUMB
FREAKING GAME TOURNAMENT TO BE
SUCCESSFUL! UNLIKE THAT LOSER!
NOW IF YOU'LL EXCUSE ME, I HAVE A
JOB TO DO. GOODBYE.

Dolvio hangs up the phone, and throws it across the room.

DR. DOLVIO (CONT'D)

(Takes a deep breath)
Sorry about that, my family's
just so aggravating sometimes.

BETH
I know that feeling... My parents
have such high expectations for
me, and I feel like they'll never
be satisfied by whatever I end up
doing.

DR. DOLVIO
Right?? My mom is the same way!
She got a cat not too long ago,
but she doesn't even take care of
it! I mean, I was the one who
asked for it, but COME ON!! She
bought the damn thing! Why does
it matter if I was the one who
convinced her to?? And don't even
get me STARTED on how much she
favors my brother. She never even
gets mad at him when he does
something wrong. I can barely get
any sleep at night because he's
always screaming about people
hacking and being sweaty, if
they're really THAT sweaty, just
throw them a damn towel, for
god's sake! He CLAIMS he does
some "E-Sport" crap for a living,
but I KNOW he's just making
excuses to sit on his ass all day
playing video games. Like, why is
HE the favorite??? I HAVE MY OWN
THERAPY OFFICE!!! WHAT MAKES HIM
SO SPECIAL??

BETH
Maybe the fact that he actually
does his job? No offense, doc,
but for someone with three Phd's,
IN PSYCHOLOGY, NO LESS, you don't
seem to know the first thing
about how to help someone. I came
here to get help with MY
problems, not to help you with
yours. I'M the client here, your
time wasn't the one that was
wasted today, you're still
getting paid either way. Best of
luck with all that crap, though,
'cause I'm not coming back here
just to help you through it. GOOD
DAY TO YOU, SIR! AND MAY WE NEVER
CROSS PATHS AGAIN!!

Beth leaves

DR. DOLVIO
Geez, what was HER problem?
