Q1: What do you think comprise the concept, package and process for the adventure playground?

• a concept, which is the understanding of the nature, use and value of the service or product;

The woodland adventure playground is a means of recreation and leisure for children and
families visiting chatsworth house.It has a range of frames ,bridges,high –level walkways,swings
chutes and slides. The idea behind the playground is to provide an area for children to enjoy
themselves and play around having a good yet adventurous experience while exploring the
woodland and greenery as visiting a historical house can be quite tiresome and boring. Many
relaxing areas together with green places in change with visual attractions. Silence and
entertainment should be balancing the visitors.

• a package of ‘component’ products and services that provide those benefits defined in the
concept

The package of the adventure park include a farmyard, which a big attraction for families and
provides with close encounters with a variety of livestock including pigs,sheep,cows,chickens
and fishes. The staff even provides live demonstrations. Close to the adventure playground is
the Chatsworth house itself home of the 12 th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire with 175 rooms
filled with historical treasures and sculptures. There are lush green gardens with large man
made lakes including a complementary gift shop to purchase sovenuiers,restaurants and
surrounding parkland which is open to visitors for walking, picnics and swimming in the river. All
these other attractions bundled with the woodland playground helps to provide an exhilarating
yet natural experience to families providing them quality entertainment and recreation.

The process for the adventure park would be that the visitors that the visitors visit the
Chatsworth house and where the personnel take them for a tour of all the rooms seeing famous
works of art, furniture,etc the house leads to the gardens over 105 acres and five miles of
footpath with streams, ponds and fountains fed with cascades. The garden views are changed
according to seasons and maintained by 20 gardeners to ensure they are well maintained. The
gift shop and restaurant are open throughout the year. Close to the house and gardens is the
farmyard with a separate admission charge where the staff lead the visitors to see the farm
animals and even provide milking demonstrations and animal handling sessions.The animals are
again well fed and looked after by the staff. The adventure playground is accessed through the
farmyard with a number of frames, bridges, high level walksways which are regularly
maintained.
Q3: What does the concept of interactive design mean for a service such as adventure
playground described here?

The concept of interactive design is very important for a service like adventure playground. Their
could be numerous meanings to it. One can be that the design of the playground should blend
well with other structures which have been constructed including the historical and traditional
nature of Chatsworth house. One of the options given in the case where to replace it with
something better but similar. Even though building a better playground would obviously
encounter greater costs but if the concept of interactive design is followed through it would
reduce the time to market newer innovations like more thrilling slides and chutes and reduce
the impact on the loss of profitability which is incurred when adding new products and features
to the playground. They should always be a room left for improvement.
Since the playground is a part what Chatsworth has got to offer, simultaneous improvements
and works are needed in all arenas including the gift shop, farmyard and gardens and not the
playground alone. To manage such a design where everything is interrelated and crucial to the
process and deisgn it is important that decisions are taken promptly and all conflicts in decision
are resolved quickly to prevent further delay costing both revenues and time.
designers need to use their knowledge of physical form, color, aesthetics, human perception
and desire, usability to create a fit of a playground with the visitors using it. They should be
aware of the motivations needs and behaviour of the end users. In this way a better design can
be implemented for the entire package overall and Chatsworth house can a boon with the
vistiors. In the case the companies had managed to create a better playground through
interactive design concept basing it on water which is a recurrign theme in the garden of
Chatsworth and could blend in well with the rest of the services offered giving a wonderful
theme. They implemented a project based organizational structure in which the entire team
focused on a single concept i.e utilizing the stream
