STUDIOXP
INCLUSION
PRACTICES
DESIGN PRINCIPLES:
L.E.A.R.N. & L.E.A.D.
Every member of the StudioXP community is seen as a
leader: valued for their unique traits and talents. There are
regular opportunities to explore new skills which catalyzes
personal growth. This growth is showcased in a way that
others can recognize what each other can contribute when
it comes to responding to issues and positively impacting
the world together.
CORE COMPETENCIES
Developing a "Studio Mindset" through integrated CTF
and core subject projects, helps learners gain creative
confidence when faced with risks, unknown and
challenging situations while also connecting them to
possible career paths. Learners reflect on the growth of
these skills, attitudes and knowledge throughout the year
in a "MyBlueprint" portfolio.
BALANCED ASSESSMENT
Making learning visible through the 'process' and not
just the 'product' is emphasized when it comes to
assessment. Observations, conversations, teacher
feedback, peer and self assessment are all used to
guide and document growth and next steps. Universal
supports are embedded in the design of projects so
that all students can have success. Formative
assessment practices aim to increase participation and
ownership over the learning. Students learn how to
give and receive meaningful feedback. Real audiences
or relevant contexts automatically raise the expectation
for high quality and best work from all learners.
INDIGENOUS EDUCATION
Cultivating a connection to the land and local ecosystems
helps learners gain insight into Indigenous ways of
knowing. Aboriginal perspectives and reconciliation
inquiries are highlighted throughout units of study. Local
connections and experts provide authentic teaching of
historical and current issues and events.
MENTAL HEALTH
Intentional core routines and team building exercises build
positive relationships in the class where all learners feel a
sense of safety and belonging. These also give opportunities
to explicitly teach, talk about, and practice wellness.
Outdoor learning experiences help to build self-awareness
and build capacity for leadership and resilience.
