Animal Kingdom

Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom


With more than 3,000 species of buttefly and insect specimens, it is one of the world’s largest collections.

Open: 9.00am-6.30pm daily (last entry 6pm).

Location: 51 Cable Car Road, Sentosa Island.

Getting There: Take the Sentosa Bus from Habourfront Centre Interchange (just next to Harbourfront MRT station). On Sentosa, take the bus on the Blue

Jurong BirdPark
Fly, flap, flutter, float… With over 9,000 feathered friends from 600 species, Jurong BirdPark is one of Asia Pacific’s most impressive bird parks.

Night Safari
As the sun sets, a different world comes to life. At the Night Safari, you can look a rhinoceros in the eye, hear the howls of a pack of striped hyenas or
watch giraffes glide serenely across the plain in the still of the night.

Singapore Zoo
Tired of having the usual breakfast? Then feast with an orang utan, the Oriental small-clawed otter, or even the reticulated python!

Situated on Sentosa, Underwater World is a dream haven which showcases the awe-inspiring beauty of a whole different world beneath the seas.

Ethnic Quarters

Little India
As you step into Little India, be prepared for an overpowering of the senses! First, you will be greeted by the strong, heady scent of spices and jasmine
garlands, followed by the treasure trove of silverware, brassware, ethnic jewelry and colourful silk saris, dazzling to behold.

Getting There: Take the north east line to NE6, Little India station or take SBS bus number 65 from Orchard Road, alight at Tekka Market along

Chinatown
Singapore's Chinatown evolved around 1821 when the first Chinese junk arrived from Xiamen, Fujian province in China. The passengers, all men, set up
home around the south of the Singapore River which is known today as Telok Ayer.

Geylang Serai
Geylang Serai is the cultural heart of the Malay community in Singapore. At the Malay Village, go back in time and discover the traditional 'Kampung Days'

Kampong Glam
Named after the Gelam tree which used to grow in the area, Kampong Glam was the historic seat of Malay royalty in Singapore. Today, the former Istana
Kampong Glam (Sultan’s palace) has been converted into a heritage museum, the Malay Heritage Centre, to showcase the rich history and culture of
Singapore’s Malay community.

Isles of Singapore

Kusu Island
A giant sea turtle saves two shipwrecked sailors - a Malay and a Chinese. As an act of thanks, the two men build a Chinese temple, a Malay shrine and a
huge turtle sculpture.

Lazarus Island & Sisters Island


South of Singapore lie two tiny islands. Though small, they have much to offer, with sandy beaches and inviting waters - ideal for a relaxing get-away.
Swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving are recommended.

Pulau Ubin
This rustic village is a reflection of days gone by, when life was simpler. Try leisure walking or cycling to enjoy the natural vegetation and laidback
kampong ambience of this quaint island.

Sentosa
Sentosa - a themed attraction, tropical resort, nature park and heritage centre all rolled into one!

Getting There: Take the Sentosa Bus from Habourfront Centre Interchange (just next to Harbourfront MRT station). The cable car operates from
HarbourFront Tower 2, 8.30am to 11pm daily. By taxi or drive in.

St John's Island
A former penal settlement, this large hilly island has been transformed into the perfect locale for a weekend get-away, with swimming lagoons, beaches,
picnic grounds, trekking routes and soccer fields.

Landmarks and Memorials

CHIJMES
Having undergone a spectacular facelift as a national heritage site, CHIJMES (pronounced “chimes”) is now a popular dining, shopping and entertainment
site. CHIJMES Hall, the restored chapel, provides a breath-taking backdrop for musicals, recitals, theatrical performances and weddings.

Dalhousie Obelisk
In harmony with the historic Singapore River area at Empress Place, this stately monument was built to commemorate the visit to Singapore in 1850 by

Istana
Care to meet the President in his home? If you’re lucky, you just might! The Istana (or “palace” in Malay) is the official residence of the President of
Singapore and just five times a year, its gates are open to members of the public.

Lau Pa Sat
Built in 1894, Lau Pa Sat is the largest remaining Victorian filigree cast-iron structure in Southeast Asia. Located in the heart of Singapore's business
district, the former wet market has been restored and is now a favourite food centre of the locals, offering a wide and affordable variety of local food.

Merlion Park
The Merlion was first designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 1964 - the lion head with a fish body resting on a crest of waves

Old Parliament House and the Elephant Statue


What do government and art have in common? The Old Parliament House, for one. Designed and built by George Coleman as a colonial mansion in 1827,
Singapore's oldest government building has been renamed and re-launched as The Arts House.

Raffles Hotel
Meet Singapore’s most famous Grande Dame - born in 1887 and never looking better! Raffles Hotel is one of the world’s last great 19th century hotels,
having been the retreat and source of inspiration for many writers and movie stars, including Somerset Maugham, Rudyard Kipling, Joseph Conrad and
Charlie Chaplin.

Statues of Sir Stamford Raffles


Sir Stamford Raffles - Singapore’s founder - stands tall and proud in the form of a dark bronze status in front of Victoria Theatre. Its replica, made of pure
white polymarble, stands at North Boat Quay, an area commonly known as the Raffles Landing Site.

Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall


Chinese heroism and nationalism are recurring themes at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. Open: 9.00am-5.00pm (Tuesdays to Sundays. Except
Chinese New Year Eve-9.00am to 12pm).Closed on Mondays (including public holidays which fall on Mondays, 1st & 2nd days of Chinese New Year and

Supreme Court and City Hall


Built in 1939, the Supreme Court’s Corinthian columns, classic design, and spacious interiors featuring murals by Italian artist, Cavalieri Rodolfo Nolli,
make it one of the finest buildings ever built during the British Rule of Singapore.

Asian Civilisations Museum


As its name suggests, the Asian Civilisations Museum focuses on the heritage of Asian cultures. The first wing (ACM I), located at Armenian Street, is a
meticulously restored neo-classical building dating back to 1910.

Opening Hours : Mon 1pm to 7pm; Tue to Sun 9am to 7pm; late night opening on Friday, free admission from 6pm to 9pm. Getting There: ACM I - From
City Hall MRT Station (NS25/EW13), walk towards Stamford Road and turn into Armenian Street. ACM II - From City Hall MRT Station (NS25/EW13), walk
along St Andrew’s Road, past St Andrew’s Cathedral, City Hall and Supreme Court. Walk into Old Parliament Lane. ACM II is on the left after The Arts
House.

Changi Chapel & Museum


A beacon of hope for the hopeless. The Changi Chapel, housed within the open-air courtyard of the Museum, is a symbolic replica of the many chapels
built during the Japanese Occupation.

Chinatown Heritage Centre


Life of the ethnic Chinese in early Singapore was simple and almost everyone lived in rented cubicles of shophouses, which were often overcrowded and

There is no site more appropriate for the Malay Heritage Centre than the Istana Kampong Glam - previous home of Malay royalty.

MINT (Moment of Imagination and Nostalgia with Toys), the world's first purpose-built museum for toys, opened in Singapore in May 2006.

Nei Xue Tang


Buddhism is one of the religious pillars of the East. Nei Xue Tang’s priceless collection of Buddhist art works pays tribute to devotees, with Buddhist
artifacts, relics, antiquities and art pieces gathered from Japan and Gandhara to China and Indonesia.

NUS Museums
At the Western end of Singapore lies a jewel of artworks and cultural artifacts. The NUS Museums at the National University of Singapore house a

Republic of Singapore Air Force Museum


For military and aviation buffs, the Republic of Singapore Air Force Museum is a must-see. Spread over 10,600 square metres of land, the museum
comprises an outdoor gallery and two levels of indoor galleries.

Republic of Singapore Navy Museum


Military and marine enthusiasts will be captivated by the exhibits at the Republic of Singapore Navy Museum - antique marine equipment, historic
photographs, even details of sophisticated, high technology missile corvette vessels.

Open: 8:30am - 4:30pm (Mon-Fri), 8:30am - 12 noon (Sat). Getting There: Take the MRT to Sembawang Station (NS11), then take SMRT Bus 856. Alight

Royal Selangor Pewter Museum


Pewter, an alloy combining tin, copper and antimony, is a speciality of Southeast Asia - commonly made into decorative and functional objects, with a fine
attention to detail.

Singapore Art Museum


Home to the national art collection of Singapore, the Singapore Art Museum resides in a brilliantly restored historic school building (the former St Joseph’s
Institution). Opened in 1996, the museum has 13 galleries and over 4,000 artworks, making it the largest collection of 20th century Southeast Asian art in
the region.

Singapore Mint Coin Gallery


Love makes the world go round... or is it money? The Singapore Mint Coin Gallery houses an impressive collection of coins, medals and medallions from
all over the world.

Open: 9am - 4.30pm (Mon to Fri). Getting There: Option 1 - From Clementi MRT Station (EW23), take SBS bus 154 and alight at the 8th bus stop (not
including the boarding bus stop outside MacDonald's below Clementi MRT Station). Walk in by Penjuru Road. You will see a white building of The
Singapore Mint on your left before the 8th bus stop. Option 2 - From Jurong East MRT Station (EW24/NS1), walk to the bus stop for TIBS Bus 178 outside
Jurong East Library, along Jurong Town Hall Road. Not counting the boarding bus stop, alight at the 4th bus stop and walk in by Penjuru Road. You will

Singapore Philatelic Museum


Both stamp and non-stamp collectors will delight in the extensive collection of local and international stamps, and first day covers housed in this quaint
building dated back to 1907.

Parks, Gardens & Nature Reserves

Agricultural Farms
Do you know there are over 200 real working farms in the six Agrotechnology Parks in Singapore, occupying a total land area of 1,500 hectares? Bounded
by the land and manpower constraints, farms practise modern intensive farming that suits the tropical climate. This makes them interesting as unique
Singapore nature attractions.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve


It may surprise many to know that the small city-state of Singapore is only one of two cities in the world to have a significant area of primary rainforest
within its boundaries - the other being Rio de Janeiro.

Open: 8.30am - 6.30pm (daily) Getting There: Take the MRT to Newton Station (NS21), then take SMRT Bus 171.

Chek Jawa
For environmentalists and conservationists, Chek Jawa is a gem of marine wildlife. Located at the eastern tip of Pulau Ubin, Chek Jawa is a collection of
six distinct habitats - coastal forest, mangroves, sand bars, seagrass lagoon, rocky shore & coral rubble. Some of these habitats can be found at Pulau
Sekudu, which is considered part of Chek Jawa.

Getting There: Take the MRT to Tanah Merah station (EW4).Then take SBS bus 2 or 29 to Changi Village bus interchange. Then take a bumboat ride from
Changi Point Ferry Terminal (SGD 2 for a single trip). The bumboat service operates from 6 am to at least 8 pm. Once on Pulau Ubin, either rent a bicycle
from one of the bicycle kiosks or take a local taxi to Chek Jawa.

Chinese Garden
Step into the Chinese Garden and you might just imagine you’re in ancient China! Built in 1975 and designed by Prof Yuen-chen Yu, a well-known
architect from Taiwan, the Chinese Garden is modeled along the northern Chinese imperial style of architecture and landscaping.

East Coast Park


Looking for a one-stop family fun site? It has to be East Coast Park. Located off the East Coast Parkway, the beach and landscaped terrains make East
Coast Park a weekend favourite for Singaporeans.

Open: Daily. Park is lit from 7:00pm to 7:00am. Getting There: Take a taxi from Orchard Road, or take SBS bus 16 and alight at Marine Terrace. Then
use the underpass to cross the ECP expressway. Or take bus 401 to East Coast Park Service Road (Sundays and Public Holidays only)

Fort Canning Park


Established way back in 1859 as an arms store, barracks and hospital, Fort Canning contains precious memorials of Singapore's early history dating back
to the 14th century and Sir Stamford Raffles' personal bungalow.

Open: Daily. Getting There: Take the MRT to Dhoby Ghaut Station (NS24) and walk towards Fort Canning Road.

Labrador Park
Labrador Park’s high vantage point led the British to identify it as a defence site to protect the entrance to the harbours of Singapore in 1843. Now, it is
an oasis of tranquillity and offers a picturesque view of the sea.

Open: 24 hours, park is lit from 7pm to 12 am. Getting There: Services 10, 30, 51, 143 and 176. Alight along Pasir Panjang Road and proceed on foot via
Labrador Villa Road. Parks 408: a direct service that plys between HarbourFront Bus Interchange/MRT Station and Labrador Park (Saturdays, Sundays
and Public Holidays from 9am to 7pm). The service departs from the interchange every 30 minutes.

MacRitchie, Peirce & Seletar Reservoirs


The three reservoirs are popular sites for family outings and picnics as they provide a quiet respite to the hustle and bustle of city living. Surrounded by
broad swamps, jungles and greenery, these reservoirs run through the central northern parts of Singapore, providing a serene backdrop to the cityscape.

Mandai Orchid Garden


For over 50 years, Mandai Orchid Garden has been a beautiful sanctuary where a diverse array of spectacular hybrids bloom on a gentle hillside.

Marina City Park

Singapore Botanic Gardens

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve


The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is Singapore's first and only protected wetland nature reserve. Home to over 500 species of tropical flora and fauna,
the 87-hectare conserved wetland habitat is also a "refuelling point" for birds on the East Asian Australasian Flyway.

Open: 7.30am - 7pm (Mon - Sat), 7am - 7pm (Sun and public holidays). Getting There: Take SMRT Bus 925 from either Woodlands MRT Station (NS9) or

Turf Club/Horse Racing


Horse racing in Singapore has had a long and illustrious history, beginning in 1842 with the formation of the Singapore Sporting Club by a group of racing

World War II Sites

Battle Box
Tucked into the hillside of Fort Canning is the Battle Box, the largest underground command centre of the British Malaya Command Headquarters during
World War II. Comprising 22 rooms linked by a corridor, this complex is bomb-proof and also capable of recycling its own air supply.

Changi Chapel & Museum


A beacon of hope for the hopeless. The Changi Chapel, housed within the open-air courtyard of the Museum, is a symbolic replica of the many chapels
built during the Japanese Occupation.

Civilian War Memorial


This memorial was erected to remember the shared experiences and struggles of the major races of Singapore during World War II. Every year on 15
February, a memorial service is held here to remember the victims of the war.

Getting There: A short walk from City Hall MRT Station (EW13/NS25).Fort Siloso
Built by the British in the 1880s to protect the western entrance to the Singapore harbour, Fort Siloso is the only preserved British coastal fortification in
Singapore today.

Johore Battery
Built by the British in 1939 for the defence of Singapore, the Johore Battery is a gun emplacement site consisting of a labyrinth of tunnels. The tunnels
were used to store ammunition to support three monster guns that could fire 15-inch shells.

Open: 9.00am-5.00pm (Daily). Getting There: Take SBS Bus 2 from Tanah Merah MRT Station (EW4) and alight at the bus stop opposite Selarang Camp.

Kranji War Memorial


Kranji War Memorial honours the men from Britain, Australia, Canada, Sri Lanka, India, Malaya, the Netherlands and New Zealand who gave their lives for
freedom in World War II.

Go back in time to 1942 when 1,400 soldiers of the Malay Regiment made their stand against 13,000 Japanese soldiers, choosing death over dishonour.
