About
Pulau Ubin, also known simply as Ubin, is an island in north - eastern Singapore, west of Pulau
Tekong. The Granite quarry was supported by a few thousand settlers in the 1960s on Pulau Ubin,
but today there are only about a hundred villagers. It is one of the last rural areas in Singapore with a
wealth of flora and fauna.

The wooden house villages and wooden jetties of Pulau Ubin, relaxed inhabitants, rich and
preserved wildlife, abandoned quarries and plantations and untouched nature make it the ultimate
witness of ancient Singapore kampong that existed before modern industrial times and urban
development on a large scale.

Although the island has only received attention in recent years for development and planning,
Singaporean visitors have visited Pulau Ubin for summer camps and outdoor activities for many
years.

How to Get There

By Boat
Visitors can take a 10-minute boat ride from the Changi Point Ferry Terminal (formerly known as the
Changi Village jetty) to Pulau Ubin from Singapore's main island. Each boat can carry 12 passengers
and the captain is waiting until the maximum capacity of his boat is reached. People who don't want
to wait can afford S$36.00.

In 2008 the one-way ticket price was increased from S$2.00 to S$2.50 per passenger. It was further
increased to S$3.00 from 7 September 2015 onwards.

Tourist Attractions
Ubin Town
Ubin Town is the heart of Ubin. As you leave Ubin Jetty and turn left (westwards), you will see the
"Taxi Service" stand where taxi drivers wait to offer their services. On the way into town, there are
several bicycle rental shops and eating establishments. The restaurants serve home-cooked seafood
and other local dishes. They can be quite crowded during weekends at peak mealtimes.

In the centre of town is the wayang stage which has a colourful history. Nearby are provision shops
that stock almost everything you could possibly need on your daytrip and offer fresh coconuts and
other delicacies of the island. There is a temple tucked away in a corner.

Moving further along in this direction, you will pass the Ubin Volunteer Hub (previously the
Community Centre). The Assembly Area facing it is a conveniently place to start off large groups
visiting Ubin. Cycling groups and student outings start here.

The roof of the Assembly Area has solar panels which are a part of the Ubin Micro-grid.

Check Jawa
Chek Jawa is the largest natural intertidal flat in northern Singapore, located at Pulau Ubin 's eastern
tip. Chek Jawa is precious because there are a number of different ecosystems in a small area. These
provide shelter for plants and animals not common anywhere else in Singapore.
Check Jawa is popular with its Coastal Hill Forest, mangroves, rocky shore, sandy shore and sand bar
and coral rubble area.

Wildlife
Ubin is a treasure house of wild plants and animals. Some of these are rarely seen on the mainland
but are still common on Ubin. Some highlights include otters, monkeys, mousedeer, hornbills and
boar.
