INSTRUCTION:

Using the DSM 5, identify the signs and symptoms manifested by Ryan for Alcohol Use Disorder
and Alcohol Withdrawal.

I. ALCOHOL USE DISORDER SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

1. Alcohol is taken in excessive amounts over a long period of time than was intended.
 Ryan drinks 3 pints of Vodka per day.
2. Has intense craving for alcohol.
 After 8 hours of being sober he starts to feel an intense craving for alcohol.
3. Recurrent alcohol use even though it physically hazardous.
 Ryan has slurred speech, has broken hips and his organs were damaged but still
consumes liquor.
4. Continued alcohol use despite of having persistent or recurrent social or interpersonal
problems.
 On their way to the therapist, Ryan and his brother squabbles for not getting him
booze. But eventually, Ryan still continuously consumes it.
5. Alcohol use is still continued despite having knowledge that recurrent physical or
psychological problem is likely to have been caused by alcohol.
 His broken hip has no chance to recover due to excessive alcohol consumption and
he is aware of it but still drinks a lot.
6. Tolerance: A need for markedly increased amounts of alcohol to achieve desired effects.
 He drinks when he feels sober so that he could feel better.

II.ALCOHOL WITHDRAWAL SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS


 Cessation of Alcohol use that has been heavy and prolonged.
 Autonomic hyperactivity (profuse sweating; pulse rate of 136 bpm)
• Hand tremors
• Nausea and vomiting
• Psychomotor agitation
• Insomnia
• Anxiety
• Social and occupational impairment.
• Transient Visual, tactile, or auditory hallucinations or illusions.
• Delirium tremens
