How was the geography of Sparta similar to the geography of Athens? How was it
different?

- Athens was located in a place called Attica it borders the Mediterranean Sea
and the Aegean Sea, on the other side, the Spartans were located in Laconia a
city-state of Greece that was a large region of Peloponnesus.
- Attica and Laconia had mountains, rivers, and fertile land, but the climate was
so difficult to manage so the crops will be affected, also the summer was so hot
and dry, instead the winter was so cold and wet.
- As these two cities were around of the sea so both start to trade by them, but
the Athens built a navy and the Athens a big army.
- Also, there was the acropolis that is a shelter and Agora was a market and
meeting place.

Who were the ancestors of the Athenians and Spartans?

- Athens: Laconians
- Spartans: Dorians

How was life different for men, women, and children in Sparta compared to Athens?

- The Spartan Men were forced to be in the army, and they had to live in the
barracks with other military, also at the 30 years old they can leave the army
and being involved in the government, instead the Athens don’t were forced to
go to the army, the Athens men were studying or teaching.
- The Spartan woman, were taking care of some child at the age of 7, then the
mother can be “freer”, also the woman had more rights that the Athens
Women, the Athens women were also in charge of the children.
- The Boys were also forced to go to the army at 7 years old, so they go there and
“live” there, instead the girls help the mother in the house or sometimes they
study, in the other hand the Athens children were studying, learning to reading
and writing, basically their life was based on learning and education.

What were some Spartan values?

- Discipline, Hard-Work, strong, simplicity, and perseverance.

What did Athenian’s value?

- Intelligence, science, knowledge, and learning.

What were the social classes in ancient Sparta?

How was the government of Sparta similar to the government of Athens? How was it
different?

- The Government of the Athens were based on democracy but time ago it was
an oligarchy, and the Spartans were based on an Oligarchy
