Summary of Objectives and Results

Title: Newsletter

Problem/opportunity: The client, The Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal, needed
a newsletter to promote its fundraising event, Over The Edge, here in
Bloomington-Normal, Ill.

Special circumstances: This project was completed for a class, COM 268 Public Relations
Writing. I was assigned an organization in the Bloomington-Normal
area and chose which fundraising event to promote. This was
individual project that required me to do research about the client as
well as the event. The following categories treat the hypothetical
situation as if it was real.

Target public(s):  Primary: Journalists in central Illinois—all media outlets

 Secondary: Media outlets’ audiences

Objective: 1. Produce the newsletter for the client by April 15, 2020
2. Gain local media coverage throughout the Bloomington/Normal
area to get word out about the event. (Benchmark: Previous media
coverage of the company collected by online search of
LexisNexis.)
3. Establish awareness within the Bloomington-Normal community
about the event on Saturday, 15 2021(Benchmark: Awareness of
this event has been established by previous years)

Evaluation: 1. The newsletter was finalized and turned in on time.

2. The assignment was hypothetical and not required to be measured; however,
media coverage may be measured by collecting data on the amount of people
who gained awareness for this event through the newsletter.
3. Because the assignment was hypothetical and not required to be measured,
awareness about this event could be measured by a questionnaire at the event,
about who got the information via the newsletter and how it can be improved
for upcoming events.
