    FIELD ASTRONOMY
    TEST 1

    Answer ALL questions.

    1. Explain the importance of the celestial sphere in field astronomy. (5 marks)

    2. What is the main purpose of doing solar observation and state suitable period for
    making the observation according to JUPEM. (5 mark)

    3. Describe clearly the Kepler’s 1st Law regarding how the earth moves around the sun
    and why there are four seasons a year at places of higher latitudes on Earth. (10
    marks)

    4. From the table below, find the declination of the sun observed at 4.20 pm Malaysian
    Standard Time on the 17 of September 2009. (5 marks)

    5. What is the Observer Meridian and Prime Vertical? (5 marks)

    6. Describe the two coordinate systems in Field Astronomy. (10 marks)

    7. Given the following coordinate of a place as below. Find the direction of Kiblat for
    that place (15 marks).

    Latitude : 3°12'21.21"N
    Longitude : 101°46'48.35"E
