THREE KINDS OF VALUES

Values are norms and principles that we evaluate the individuals, community, attitude, actions and
everything that surrounds the person. Decency, engagement, integrity are an indication of the values an
individual possesses. Here are the values forms:

● UNIVERSAL VALUES are valued by all human beings due to the intrinsic nature of these values or by
virtue of our being human beings. It is shared by human beings regardless of culture and age. The
following are some of the universal values:

Truth Happiness Inner Peace

Love Kindness Justice

Respect Courage and fearfulness

● CULTURAL VALUES depend upon people's social norms, religious views, and other environmental
circumstances. Thus, in a culture where the ration between males and females is only one to ten,
polygamy may be legal and ethical; if the opposite is true; polyandry can be the legal and ethical
practice. Divorce is allowed in some countries, in others it's a sin.

■ EXAMPLE:

Chinese women are subjected to fabric binding their feet to make their feet tiny and dainty. A
process of cutting and deformation of the toes

● PERSONAL VALUES are important to an individual and differ from person to person. Some
people may therefore value art more than money, and thus spend more time painting, even if
it provides little income.
