00:21:36 Vineeth Dondapati: SAT Subject Tests Have Been Cancelled

permanently, correct?
00:21:58 Salma Kanani: how effective is taking IBC certification through out
high school?
00:22:03 Vineeth Dondapati: As well as the SAT essay? Please clarify?
00:22:29 ram: Yes sad subject and essay are not longer available
00:23:06 Vineeth Dondapati: Do AP Scores matter?
00:23:14 Ram Gupta: so the California schools no longer accept SAT scores
anymore?
00:23:48 ram: Ap is definitely a bit one
00:24:20 Anudeep Bonagiri: If I take AP Dual credit. Do they look at the AP test
score or class grade?
00:24:41 Vineeth Dondapati: What is AP Dual credit?
00:24:48 Sreekar Reddy: The UC system is not considering SAT scores anymore
00:25:09 Vineeth Dondapati: ^^Is that permanent please? Or just for COVID?
00:25:23 Induja Asthigiri: The UC system has officially gone test-bind. So yes,
they do not even see the SAT and ACT as part of the admissions process. This is a
permanent decision.
00:25:27 Ravi Gunishetti: We are recording the session and it will be sent to
all Registered participants ....
00:26:16 Ram Gupta: are 89/88's in courses ok if they are in AP/Honors courses?
00:26:18 Vineeth Dondapati: @Induja Thank you!
00:27:05 Induja Asthigiri: Submitting AP Exam scores is optional on the college
application. Therefore, since the AP class grade will be on the transcript, they
will definetly see that more. If you submit an AP score, they will take it into
consideration. But again, it is optional to send.
00:27:50 Vineeth Dondapati: Thank you so much!
00:27:53 Anudeep Bonagiri: Thank you
00:27:55 Ved Katragadda: From Vineeth Dondapa... to Everyone:9:15 PMAs well as
the SAT essay? Please clarify?
00:28:05 Ved Katragadda: isn't the SAT removing the essay this year
00:28:12 Deepti Suri: if California state does not accept SAT scores, then
what do they accept?
00:28:56 Induja Asthigiri: @Deepti They will put more emphasis on looking at
grades earned in school, college essay, extracurriculars, recommendation, etc.
00:29:34 Dipa Dpa: If you want to pursue pre-med, should you take health
classes in high school?
00:29:38 Swapna M: In school extracurricular activities count?
00:29:48 Ram Gupta: if you get B's (89/88) in the hardest classes does that
automatically disqualify you from the top schools (MIT, Stanford)?
00:30:15 Induja Asthigiri: @Swapna definitely! any clubs your child partakes in
at school is considered an extracurricular!
00:30:55 Vineeth Dondapati: Relating to #Deepti, does that mean Cal Tech
does not accept SAT Scores? Is that permanent or just covoid?
00:31:29 Induja Asthigiri: CalTech is not part of the UC Public School system.
So, it has its own regulations.
00:32:04 Swapna M: Being in club matters or any kind of positions like
officers or Vp or presidents only matter?
00:32:21 sweta Agrawal: my child wants to prepare for ACT, will it work as
good as SAT?
00:33:21 kp: For extra curricular do we need to have sports along with Clubs?
is clubs enough
00:34:03 Sreekar Reddy: Caltech isn’t considering the SAT this year either.
00:34:20 chanchal: Because of online schooling if our grades dropped will that
be counted against us?
00:34:28 Shahul Shaik: Is it better to take lesser no of APs and get better
scores than taking more no of APs and get lesser grades?
00:34:54 Shruti Modi: Can you tell us how to show rigor if taking IB? What
subjects to take in IB? And how to they compare to APs in college application
00:35:13 Ram Gupta: do having B's disqualify you from MIT/Stanford, if they
were in AP or Honors courses at school?
00:36:01 Ajit Jagtap: how important is sports..
00:37:16 Salma Kanani: how effective is taking IBC certification through out
high school?
00:37:31 Jag Sun: What are the pockets kids needs to focus for Scholership..
like sports, volunteering hrs.. etc..
00:37:44 Tejas Murugesh: in regards to the question you answered about
classes/degree - what if you don't know what you want to pursue in college?
00:38:42 Shilpa Thakar: Is it mandatory to send AP exam scores to the
colleges you apply to?
00:39:04 Induja Asthigiri: @Shilpa optional, but recommended
00:39:05 Vineeth Dondapati: @Shalipa, no they are optional...
00:39:57 Salma Kanani: does AP classes count if you are planning to study
outside US ?
00:40:21 Vineeth Dondapati: Is it better to take lesser no of APs and get
better scores than taking more no of APs and get lesser grades?
00:41:36 Swapna M: If Some colleges won’t accept AP courses taken in high
school then what are pros in taking in high school other than GPA?
00:41:40 Rekha Pakalapati: Would not having extracurriculars make a big
difference?
00:41:45 Shruti Modi: Is IBDP an advantage or disadvantage over APs?
00:42:11 Sreekar Reddy: While you can apply to college with an undecided
major, it is best you figure that out. You can change your major/minor while in
college. But please do apply with a focus.
00:42:21 Geethika V: Do colleges care more if you take AP tests or the grades
and number of AP classes you take?
00:42:49 Vineeth Dondapati: @Geethika please answer, I had the same
question
00:43:09 Ram Gupta: if you are not in the top 5/10 % of your class due to
extenuating circumstances, will that disqualify you from the top universities?
(MIT/Stanford)
00:43:13 Kartik Rai: how can I show interest towards a college throught socical
media, on the web, etc. that you mentioned earlier
00:43:15 Sreekar Reddy: Extracurriculars are very important. Extra curricular
is a broad term. Hence not having any is highly unlikely. You don’t have to have a
title or position to make it an extra-curricular
00:44:11 Dipa Dpa: Will AP exams taken in senior year be considered in college
applications?
00:44:21 Sreekar Reddy: @kartik. Yes you can! One of our students applying to
psychology majors showed how she did an Instagram live session where she connected
with students around the world during lockdowns to discuss mental health and she
did very well! It’s a changing world and we should be up to date!
00:45:11 Sreekar Reddy: We would have to say that the GPA and the academic
performance are the most important
00:45:15 Kartik Rai: thank you very much I will look out for such oppurtunites
00:45:23 ops: Should apply for ED or Regular is better
00:46:30 Sreekar Reddy: Eds greatly increase the odds of getting if your
profile is a fit for the university. Most students strategise and categorise their
priority schools and hit the EDs. Try Hitting the Eds always
00:46:37 Ram Gupta: if you are not in the top 10% of your class, will you have
a much more harder time to get into MIT/Stanford
00:47:28 Geethika V: @Vineeth To answer your question from my point of view, I
think taking more AP classes with an average score is good. But aiming for more AP
classes with high grades is definitely more shown in colleges.
00:47:31 Sreekar Reddy: If you aren’t in the top 10% it would be an uphill
climb to an MIT/Stanford. Even among the top 10 MIT & Stanford are in a league of
their own
00:48:04 Geethika V: @Vineeth so overall more AP classes is the best
00:49:09 Sreekar Reddy: The AP question also depends on the number of MPs
your school offers. Universities have a fair idea of this for most schools. Hence
if your school offers a lot of APs and you are only taking 1-2 with high grades, it
doesn’t paint a picture. Rigour is relative
00:49:38 Sreekar Reddy: *APs
00:49:56 Geethika V: Thank you!
00:50:17 Sirisha Kankanala: What is a good count for choosing colleges?
00:50:39 Sumukh: Will you email us the recording?
00:50:41 Sreekar Reddy: That depends on you. Usually students apply to
anything between 10-20 schools.
00:51:05 Sirisha Kankanala: Thank you!
00:51:51 Ved Katragadda: Would a recommendation letter from a CEO and an
internship give an edge?
00:53:14 ram: How to get make contact at univs
00:53:30 Karthik Nuti: Is it a good idea to recommendation from the
professor at the same university good?
00:53:40 Sridhar C: what should we do to prepare, if you are in middle school?
00:54:08 chanchal: Will we be disadvantaged if we don’t have an internship but
rather do a minimum wage job
00:54:47 Sailaja Pendyala: Could you talk about paid vs free research programs?
Would the paid researches
00:54:48 Swapna M: If Some colleges won’t accept AP course taken in high
school then what are pros in taking in high school other than GPA? And if college
Ap courses, do kids need to take AP courses again
00:55:16 Sailaja Pendyala: Would the paid research programs be considered as pay
to play?
00:55:23 Ayesha Mohammad: Is it reccomended to do a job during high school to
show experiece on our applications?
00:55:52 Usha Dave: If you are in middle school, what should you do to prepare?
00:56:31 Lakshmi Mair: can we have a recording of this session ??
00:56:31 Rohankumar Kataram: Does the grade on the AP exam carry more weight
or does the grade in the class carry more
00:56:39 ram: Contacts with professors
00:56:42 ram: How
00:56:44 ram: ?
00:57:00 sally: is it okay to fail ap exams?
00:57:18 ram: How to contact profs at mit
00:59:12 Tim Kansa: Do I need to write a completely new essay for every
university for the main prompts
00:59:17 Hiya Jain: Do middle school grades affect your applications that go to
the universities?
00:59:25 Navin Advani: I am an eighth grader interested in computer science
and the medical field. What AP classes do you recommend in high school?
00:59:38 Geethika V: If I do sports outside of school (like in classes), will
colleges still consider me, or would I have to tryout in school to make a bigger
impact?
01:00:03 ram: How to contact univ professors
01:00:03 Induja Asthigiri: @Tim lots of the prompts are similar! some tweaking
would be required for each essay, but the main topic can be very similar for a lot
of the essays you will have to write!
01:00:04 Neha Shah: Does the presidental award have an impact ?
01:00:25 sally: how many leadership positions should one have
01:00:42 Induja Asthigiri: @Navin definetly try out Computer Science A, Computer
Science Principles, Physics, and Chemistry!
01:00:56 ram: How do I get a response from Univ profs
01:01:15 Hiya Jain: How much do your PSAT scores affect your high school period
and forwards
01:01:47 Navin Advani: @induja is ap bio something i should take as well?
01:01:49 Sreekar Reddy: For essays- Start and finish common app.
01:01:59 Neha Shah: 8:53 PMDoes the presidental award have an impact ?
01:02:09 Induja Asthigiri: @Navin yes! ap bio is also a good course to take.
sorry, if forgot to add that!
01:02:11 Swapna M: @Sreekar can you please reply to my query
01:02:34 Navin Advani: @induna Thanks for your help!
01:02:41 Navin Advani: *iduja
01:02:48 Vishnu Surampally: In order to get a scholarship what would they
look at for you to get one??
01:03:49 Sailaja Pendyala: Could you talk about paid (which charge about 2k-4k)
vs free research programs for summer time? Would the paid ones be considered as pay
to play?
01:04:19 Hiya Jain: How much do your PSAT scores affect your high school period
and forward?
01:04:22 Induja Asthigiri: @Sailaja paid research programs are considered as pay
to play.
01:04:42 Durga Sun: Does conducting a major event in the community impact your
percentage of getting selected
01:04:55 Sreekar Reddy: Then answer to broad essay topics- Why this
major/What major do you wish to pursue. And next cover the question about why this
university. This will help
01:06:22 Vineeth Dondapati: How many colleges should you apply to?
01:06:31 Naman Arora: if a student is in the top 10% would you recommend
taking another major at a state college in case they do not get my major of
interest at the same college and transfer later?
01:06:40 Induja Asthigiri: @Vineeth people om average apply to around 10-20
colleges
01:06:46 Induja Asthigiri: on*
01:06:48 Jag Sun: Can we talk about SCHOLARSHIPS and what kids need to focus
from Grade 8.
01:06:54 Lakshmi Mair: my daughter is not making up her mind on the field
she wants to choose . what should I do ??
01:06:55 Vineeth Dondapati: Thank you
01:07:25 Neha Shah: Does the presidental award have an impact ?
01:07:40 dere ff: yea
01:07:44 sally: is gpa more important than ap scores?
01:07:58 Vineeth Dondapati: How to get the PVSA award…
01:08:05 Induja Asthigiri: @sally since the AP scores are optional to send, the
GPA does take precedence
01:08:15 sally: ok thank u!
01:08:32 Induja Asthigiri: also, sending good AP scores is a very beneficial;
thing for college apps!
01:09:01 M V: Will becoming an Eagle Scout help for top tier schools?
01:09:04 Induja Asthigiri: it’s just that the GPA is a mandatory factor for all
applicants and is a single objective factor to represent all academic things in
school
01:09:06 Neha Shah: Does the presidental award have an impact ?
01:09:22 srushti: Can we mention the teacher recommendation in our
application or do teachers send them out directly to the college you’re looking
forward to?
01:09:32 Hiya Jain: How much do your PSAT scores affect your high school period
and forward?
01:09:39 Suraj Meela: Will becoming an Eagle Scout help for college apps?
01:09:51 Anudeep Bonagiri: Does it help more if you are president, VP,
Secretary, or etc.. in NJHS and NHS?
01:10:04 Sreekar Reddy: Teachers send the recommendation letters straight to
the university. You enter the recommenders details and they get a link to upload
the recco
01:10:48 Sreekar Reddy: Overall GPA matters more than individual AP scores.
01:10:48 Naga Lanka: Will girls scouts gold award will help for college
admission
01:11:13 Hiya Jain: How much do your PSAT scores affect your high school period
and forward?
01:11:20 Sreekar Reddy: Yes. These positions will help. It really depends on
how you convey them in your essays.
01:11:23 Lakshmi Mair: when so we start??
01:11:55 Liby George: When should we start to apply early
01:12:01 Sreekar Reddy: It is best to start applications 18 months before you
intend to start college. No one ever regrets starting early!
01:12:02 Shilpa Thakar: How do you increase your chances for potential
scholarship?
01:12:48 Sreekar Reddy: Scholarships depend on your profile. If your profile
is stronger than the competing applicant pool you might receive it.
01:13:02 rav: What are good scholarship websites
01:13:22 Sreekar Reddy: Aid can also be need based. You need to submit a
financial profile and the university deems how much aid you need. We help with this
at Gradvine
01:13:45 Lakshmi Nekkanti: We just saw the link. Can we get the link if you are
