PENILE CANCER
Overview & Facts
Penile cancer happens when cancer cells developed uncontrollably inside the penis. It can be cured if it
was diagnosed in early stage. However, this kind of cancer it begins in the skin of the man’s penis and it
can be easily noticed. This cancer is sometimes caused by an underlying health condition or the other
cancer.
TYPES
Squamous cell or epidermoid carcinoma. It is a common kind of skin condition which originates in the
squamous cells— outer and middle of the skin.
Sarcoma. These malignancies are structured in tissues like muscle, fat, and veins.
Basal cell carcinoma. The malignancy occurs in the bottom layer of the skin. They develop gradually and
aren't probably going to spread to different parts of the body.

However, the symptoms above are not always present in the patient with penile cancer— some are
caused by the adverse reaction of the medications and infection. If you are taking any medications or
other symptoms occur, it is important to inform your doctor immediately.
DIAGNOSIS
The physician will perform a physical exam and history of your condition including the symptoms. After
that, they may suggest series of test like:
Imaging tests. This tool allows the physician to determine the tumors and if spreading does occur.
Biopsy. They will remove a small tissue from the affected area of the penis and assess in the laboratory
if there is a cancer cell.
TREATMENT
In the event that your malignant growth is in the beginning phases, your treatment may include:
Mohs surgery. It is a kind of procedure wherein the damaged skin is removed leaving the healthy
tissues. It damages the skin minimally.
Circumcision. The kind of procedure where the foreskin of the penis is being removed.
Cryotherapy. They utilize a tool or cold liquid to destroy the tissue that contains cancer cells.
