BEHAVIOR OF THE PAVEMENT SYSTEM UNDER TRAFFIC LOADING

7.1. Assessment of behavior of the pavement system under traffic loading has the goal to
compare the values of the characteristic strains and stresses computed according to chapter 6,
with the admissible ones, determined based on properties of behavior of the materials.
7.2. It is considered a pavement system can carry the traffic loading, corresponding to the
considered prospect period, if all design criteria mentioned at point 2.1 are simultaneously
observed.
7.3. Criterion of the admissible tensile strain at the bottom of the bituminous layers is
observed if the fatigue distress rate (FDR) has a lower or equal value with admissible FDR.
7.3.1. The fatigue distress rate is computed with relation:

FDR = Nc/Nadm

where:
Nc - design traffic in millions standard axles of 115 kN (m.s.a.)
Nadm - the admissible traffic loading, in m.s.a., that can be carried by the bituminous
layers, corresponding to strain condition at their bottom.

7.3.2. The admissible traffic loading that can be carried by bituminous layers, is determined
with fatigue laws of the asphalt mix, depending on road or the street category, according to
the norms concerning the classification of roads of national importance, approved by M.T.
Decree no. 43/1998 and the design traffic, namely, with relations:

a. for motorways, express roads, European roads and street with design traffic higher of 1
m.s.a. (1 x 106 s.a. 115):
Nadm = 4.27 x 108 x r-3.97 (m.s.a.)

b. for roads and streets with design traffic equal at more with 1 m.s.a. (1 x 106 s.a. of 115):

Nadm = 24.5 x 108 x r-3.97 (m.s.a.)

7.3.3. The admissible number loading of standard axle of 115 kN can be determined by means
of diagram of figure 7 too, where (6a) and (6b) are expression of the above relations:
