The similarities and differences in the transformation process between a motor car
manufacturer and an airline.
Transformation process is any activity or group of activities that takes one or more inputs, transforms and adds value to them, and provides outputs for customers or clients. Where the inputs are raw materials, it is relatively easy to identify the transformation involved, as when milk is transformed into cheese and butter. Where the inputs are information or people, the nature of the transformation may be less obvious. For example, a hospital transforms ill patients (the input) into healthy patients (the output). The transformation process can be divided into three parts, such as the input, convention process and the output This report looks at the similarities and differences between in the transformation process between a motor car manufacturer and an airline. First of all, the input part will be presented first. Inputs are the basic requirements that must be included to get the required outputs. The automotive sector uses a wide range of materials in manufacturing. Metals such as aluminum and steel, advanced plastics and other materials such as glass are used in most modern automobile like as inputs. The car manufacturing industry`s inputs would be the equipment, machines, workers, and auto parts needed. The airlines industry`s inputs would be an airline’s passengers, air craft, fuel, luggage/cargo, airport terminals, staff (pilots, flight attendants, labor works, crew), and equipment (airplanes and/or pertaining to the airline industry). Both industry engage human and physical resources to deliver the desired output. The automotive company uses human resources such as mechanical engineers, production labor and physical resources like fabrication, welding and drilling machinery to deliver finished goods. Similarly, service operations at an airlines engage human resources, including pilot, air guide, flight assistant, mechanic, ticket seller and physical resources, such as aircraft, fuel, mechanic tools, and air terminal to offer the location services. Generally, airlines need more skilled workers than car production. This is because in the industry, if workers are not qualified, they take time to train and customers do not know it. However, airline staff are in constant contact with passengers. If they are not qualified, the traveler's comments can affect the business image. The next topic is the transformation processes. Transformation processes involve the activities related to the transformation of resources into goods or services. In generally, the automobile industry`s transformation processes would be the production and manufacturing of automobiles in an effective and efficient manner and airlines industry`s transformation would be flying to its destination. Different inputs in the transformation process also have different functions. The car industry only makes cars inside the factory, and the airlines have to complete the interaction with the passenger. But both tasks take time to complete. Automobile industry can be store inventory their Product before it reaches to their customer. But airlines industry cannot store because airlines work with customers to complete a service. On airlines, the frontlines worker is not allowed to make mistakes during service. But for car manufacturers, if there is a mistake during the car production process, it can be easily fixed. The last topic is about output. Output is the final product obtained after the transformation process. An automobile industry`s outputs would be the finished product of the automobile and an airline industry`s outputs would be safe transportation and satisfied customers to each individual’s specific destination. An automobile industry product a car that is a tangible product in the form of goods which can be seen and touched. But Airline`s product is services that are consumed at the moment of delivery. the quality of car is relatively easy for customers to evaluate but the quality of airline`s services is more dependent on subjective perception and expectation. In summary, both the car industry and the airline need infrastructure, manpower, finance and technology. However, due to the different nature of the work, the inputs are different and the final products are different. Nevertheless, nowadays the car industry cannot sell the only car, and the airline cannot provide the only transportation service. Today's customers will only buy if both businesses sell a package of products and services.
