APPLICATIONS
* dc insulation measurements to 10° M9.
‘Current measurements from 1 pA to 1 mA (do)
Insulation measurements on large capacitors.
‘Surface and volume resistivity of insulating materials.
Use in enviconmental tests in conjunction with limit sensor
of analogue recorder.
Use in making measurements in contaminated areas using
the remote control facilities.GENERAL
‘The Megohmmeter IM6 is a solid-state, ineoperated instru:
‘ment for high-resistance measurement. It features the most
‘advanced techniques available today and offers a versatility,
Of operations. Its also extremely easy to use,
tk measures resistance from 1 M@ to 10° M@ at an accuracy
‘of 5 % of the indicated value, or it can be used to measure
‘current within the range 1 pA'to 1 mA at the same accuracy.
‘The test voltage applied to the component under test Is so-
lected by means of thee thumb-wheel-switches within th
ange 0-900 volts in 1 volt steps. Provision is made for the
‘external control of the test voltage by applying a voltage of
either 0-10 V of 0-100 V for full range control of the test vor.
tage. A current limiter in the test voltage source prevents
lethal accidents, and the non-ock (down-ward) position of
the TEST VOLTAGE, ON/OFF switch provides additional safe
ty. An indicator famp lights when the test voltage is
switched on,
‘A MULTIPLIER switch is provided for the selection of the
‘meter range. It covers the ranges of 1 to 10° and 10 to 108
“The low input resistance obviates the necessity for any ma-
‘ual pre-charging procedures of capacitors prior to moasure-
‘ment. The 0 V line (GUARD) Is Isolated from the chassis
‘ground, but it may be grounded by means of a link which
‘connects the GUARD and GROUND terminals, Facilities are
provided for the connection of an analogue recorder or limit
Sensor with an output corresponding to —0 Videcade up
10 9 decades.
‘The stability of the test voltage Is better than 10-7 for a ++
10 % change in the line supply.
DESCRIPTION
Fig. 1 shows a block diagram of the Megohmmeter IMB to
Which this description refers. The test voltage Is fed to the
Fesistor under test. The current passing through R, exceeds.
2-nA, or via an FET curent amplifier if less than 2 nA. The
choice is made by a limit sensor connected at the output of
the log, amp. I, which operates the relays K100, K101 and
102 when the current exceeds 2 nA.
‘The output of the log. amp. | results In a voltage V, equal to
v
Jog “Bt. A corresponding reference current passing through
4 reference resistor Re is applied to a second logarithmic
amplifier I, whose output Vz Is equal to log [Vis Ry This
results in a difference voltage at the emitter of G204b equal,
10 VV, which, with Rig = 1, becomes V;-V, = log R
‘This voltage is then fed via an attenuator/range selector,
MULTIPLIER, to the meter which has two scales. One scale
‘covers 9 decades in one range, and the other covers 2 deca-
des in 8 overiapping ranges. Calibration of the IM6 Is ef-
fected by means of the preset potentiometer, SET TO .1
‘The value of the test voltage may be selected trom 0 to 909
volts in voit steps, and faclities are provided for a full
range control of the test voltage by means of an external
voltage of elther 0-10 V or 0-100 V, (dc).
‘A recorder output is provided which is connected to the out
But of the log. amp. Il, The output corresponds to an analo-
{gue of —-05 Videcade. The RECORDER terminal is located
in the muitisocket on the rear of the instrument.
‘Overioad protection of the input is provided by the diode-
‘coupled transistors @103/Q104. When the limit sensor actua-
tes the realays K100, K101 and K102 at the 2 nA point,
'K100 operates momentarily and connects a level of +2 mV.
to the input. This prevents instability when measurements
‘are made on large capacitors.Fig. 1. Block dlagram of Megohmmeter IM6
