TABLE OF CONTENTS
PAGE
1. Connect the MainPCA under test to Protrack Test Set (refer to Figure 2-1).
2. Connect DMM common lead to C171 (banana jack side) lead on Main PCA.
Power Supply
1. Turn ON power supply. Measure using DMM the voltages on the board as listed
on the following table:
2. The Main PCA should have initialized and completed bootup at this point.
Look at the front panel and make sure that the LCD displays the MAIN MENU.
3. Press the buttons in the following order: Menu, Prefs, LCDCon. Turn the encoder
counter clockwise and verify LCD goes “light” with no text visible. Turn the encoder
clockwise and verify LCD goes “dark”. Rotate encoder back to where the text is visible.
4. Press SpeakerVol and turn the encoder counter clockwise. Listen for the amplitude
of the speaker to decrease to complete silence. Turn the encoder clockwise
and listen for the amplitude of the speaker to increase.
5. Press Display, then Intensity. Turn the encoder counter clockwise and verify that
the CRT trace gets dimmer. Turn the encoder clockwise and verify that
the CRT trace gets brighter. Set the CRT intensity back to a comfortable level.
6. Press CRTHorz. Turn the encoder counter clockwise and verify that
the CRT trace moves horizontally to the left. Turn the encoder clockwise and verify
that the CRT trace moves horizontally to the right.
7. Press CRTVert. Turn the encoder counter clockwise and verify that
the CRT trace moves vertically down. Turn the encoder clockwise and verify that
the CRT trace moves vertically up. Return the CRT trace to its center position.
8. Press TraceSep. Turn the encoder counter clockwise and verify that
the CRT’s dual traces moves vertically down closer then apart. Turn the encoder
clockwise and verify that the CRT’s dual traces moves vertically up closer then apart.
9. Press Alt then press Rate and turn the encoder counter clockwise and observe the
blinking red LEDs below the Alt and A+B buttons slow down. Turn the encoder
clockwise and verify the blinking red LEDs speed up.
Short Channel A to common at banana jacks. Verify on front panel CRT that
Channel A shows a short and Channel B shows an open.
Sinewave Source
Verify that the LOW LED is on ( LOW range selected) on the front panel. Observe
on scope, dual sine waves at approximately 10 volts peak and 60 hertz.
Press MED1 button and observe on scope, dual sine waves at approximately
15 volts peak and 60 hertz.
Press MED2 button and observe on scope, dual sine waves at approximately
20 volts peak and 60 hertz.
Press HV20 button and observe on scope, dual sine waves at approximately
20 volts peak and 60 hertz.
11. Press 20V button and rotate the encoder counter clockwise. Observe on scope,
dual sine waves that decrease in amplitute. Rotate the encoder clockwise and
observe on scope, dual sine waves that increase in amplitute.
Note: Adjust the scope’s vertical as needed to get the best display.
The frequency of the sine wave should remain constant during this part of the test.
12. Press 60Hz button and rotate the encoder counter clockwise. Observe on scope,
dual sine waves that decrease in frequency. Rotate the encoder clockwise and
observe on scope, dual sine waves that increase in frequency.
13. Press 20HV button and then the 20V button. Rotate the encoder counter clockwise
and set the voltage to 2V. Press the Alt button and then the 100kohm button.
Rotate the encoder counter clockwise and then clockwise while observing on scope,
that dual sine waves should remain constant in amplitude and frequency.
Also, watch the front panel CRT trace and verify that the trace remains relatively
horizontal.
Digital Functions
Next press and hold down the button left 5 (just above the Scan button on the left side)
and press button right 3 (right side second down from Menu button),
then button right 4 (next one below) and then button right 3 again. Finally release
the button left 5 you were holding down.
If you correctly entered this button sequence, you will see the special Test menu.
15. Press the BitSet SW button. Depress and release the foot switch while watching
the foot switch icon change on the LCD.
16. Connect scope channel A probe ground lead to R148 lead nearest C113 (back
corner of PCA by J8, scanner interface connector). Set scope vert to 2V and time to
1mS.
Scanner Interface
Observe on the scope the following wave forms at the test points as follows:
17. Using scope probe, examine J8 pins 1,3,4,6, 7and 8 and compare wave forms
with the following figure.
18. Using scope probe, examine J8 pins 2 and 5 and compare wave forms with the
following figure.
19. Plug in Scanner test jumper into J8 (pins 1 and 5 are tied).
Using scope probe, examine U68 pin 9 and compare wave forms with the
following figures.
Parallel Interface
20. Press the Parallel button. Using the scope probe, examine J19 pins 1 and 3 and
compare wave forms with the following figure.
21. Using the scope probe, examine J19 pin 5 and compare wave forms
with the following figure.
Check U82-10; should be same level, i.e. if 0V at J19-5 then also 0V here.
22. Using the scope probe, examine J19 pins 9 and 10 (+5V) and compare wave forms
with the following figure.
23. Using the scope probe, examine J19 pins 12,13 and 14 (GND) and compare wave
