Creator and Created

Becoming a Faithful Community of God

April 25, 2021  Rev. James Chuang  Exodus 20:4-6

Introduction

1. Confusion (4-5a; Romans 1:20-25)

2. Confession (5b; Isaiah 42:8)

3. Consecration (6; John 17:16-19)

Conclusion: God, the Creator, is eternally greater and set apart from everything He
has created; we can only find peace as God’s people when we honor this distinction
in our hearts and save our worship and first love for God alone.
SERMON LATER – REFLECTION

1. How does the fact that God created everything change the way we see the world?
(Try to think of at least three examples.)

2. What are some of the things that people in our culture respect the most? How do
these things take the place of God in people’s lives? (That is, what are some specific
ways these things replace God?)

3. Why is it good for God to be jealous, but bad for anyone else? What are some
things that you have done that might give God reason to be jealous?

4. Look up the meaning of the word “confess” in a dictionary. What does it mean to
confess good things that you believe in, as opposed to bad things that you are
ashamed of? Which, to you, is more difficult: to confess your sins, or to confess
your beliefs? How so?
