● Students will be given a survey to evaluate their current social-emotional awareness.
● Staff will be given a survey to determine their level of understanding social-emotional
learning.
Objectives
● Students will develop or extend their knowledge of their social-emotional awareness
of self.
● Staff will develop or extend their understanding of developing social-emotional
learning within their students.
Evaluation Strategies
● Teachers will engage in on-going professional development throughout the school
year.
● Teachers will implement the Second Step SEL, Bullying Prevention Unit, and Child
Protection Unit during their homeroom time.
● Students will receive daily curriculum of Second Step throughout the school year in
their homeroom class.
● Surveys will be given to students and staff at the beginning and end of
implementation to gain perception data.
Focused and Sustained Time
Implementation of the program will be ongoing throughout the school year and the cycle
will repeat each school year. During the implementation process there will be ongoing
professional development for teachers and differentiated lessons for students.

Professional Development Strategies
● Overall Concept of Social Emotional Learning at staff meeting

Follow-up:
● Administrator support: Principal will utilize the Second Step K-5 Principal Toolkit to
facilitate teachers and students throughout the use of the program.
● Opportunities for study and reflection: teachers will engage in monthly professional
development that reviews the effectiveness of Second Step in their students in the
classroom.
● Daily planning time: Teachers will meet in small grade-level teams to reflect on
pacing and whether or not to omit or keep certain lessons in the scope and
sequence.
● Collaboration with colleagues.
● Interaction with school counselor, school facilitator, assistant principal, and lead
teacher coordinator to establish a coherent experience with the curriculum.
● Summative Assessment
● Communication with parents: Educate and respond to concerns.
● Present to Assistant Superintendent and Central Office for approval.
