We use the possessive adjective before nouns to show who has something.

 I have a book. It is my book.

 You have a car. It is your car.
 Adam has a jacket. It is his jacket.
 Maria has shoes. They are her shoes.
 The door is black. Its color isn’t blue.
 We have a house. Our house is big.
 You and Anna have bikes. Your bikes are great.
 Sam and Tom have a dog. Their dog is cute.

Practice

We use possessive pronouns instead of a noun we have
already talked about. There is NO noun after the pronoun.

 Your car is blue but mine is grey. (instead of my car)

 His car is amazing. Yours is great too. (instead of your car)
 I have a great dog and Adam has an amazing dog too. But
his is bigger (instead of his dog)
 You have a very nice dress and Jamie has a nice dress too. But hers is
longer. (instead of her dress)
 They have a great teacher but ours is great as well! (instead of our
teacher)
 Kids, don’t touch that. It is Dimi’s phone. It is not yours. (instead of your
phone)

but it isn’t as strong.

A pronoun does not like nouns!
