The Rodna Mountains are part of the northern group of the Eastern

Carpathians. With a maximum height of 2,303 meters, reached by the Pietrosul

peak, the Rodna Mountains are the highest and most difficult to cross in the
chain of the Eastern Carpathians. The main peak is a plague 50 km long and 30–
40 km wide, oriented east-west, steep to the north and gentle to the south.

The mountains appear in the form of a horst [1] made up of crystalline schists,
delimitation of deep faults: Dragoș Vodă (the north) and Rodnei (the south). In
the southern part of the mountains, Neogene volcanic rocks appear, in the
form of some maggots arranged along the Someș Mare. Sedimentary rocks, of
Cretaceous and Paleogene age (marls, conglomerate sandstones and
limestones) that massively surround, were affected by Styrian movements and
embossing characteristic features. From the entire eastern Carpathian chain,
the Rodna Mountains best keep up with the Quaternary glaciers. These
mountains have numerous glacial circuses (Ineu - Lala, Negoiescu, Iezer,
Buhăescu, Izvorul Cailor, Puzdrele, etc.), gorges and gorges (Cheile Bistricioarei,
Strâmba, Rebra, Cormopăcail gorges, etc.) plague 80 m - the largest in the
country , the main stage having plague 16 m high -, Gușet, Cormoaia, Anieș,
Puzdrele waterfall which is at 1,520 m altitude).

Măglei Cave
Zalion's Gutter Cave. Its galleries total 2,121 m and have an elevation difference
of 226 m. The entrance to the cave is made through a deep abyss of 44 m, or a
diameter of 3 m [2]
The Grota Zânelor Cave, with a length of 4,368 m, has the highest branching
coefficient in Romania.
Izvorul Albastru al Izei Cave, with a length of 2,500 m,
Schneider's Cave Cave, located 1,500 m above sea level, with a length of 430 m
[2]
The cave from Valea Cobășelului, located in Bistrița-Năsăud county, on the
administrative territory of Șanț commune.
