introduction
Internet of things (IoT) is an arrangement about interrelated registering devices,
mechanical and advanced machines, objects, animals or people that are Gave for
interesting identifiers and the capacity should exchange information over a system
without requiring human-to-human alternately human-to-computer communication. IoT
has acquired from the aggregation of wireless technologies, micro-electro automated
systems (MEMS), microservices and the internet. The aggregation has helped breach
bottomward the silo walls amid operational technology (OT) and advice technology (IT),
acceptance baggy machine-generated abstracts to be analyzed for insights that will drive
improvements.
Internet of things (IOT) also a network of physical objects and the internet is not only a
network of computers, but it has evolved into a network of device of all type and sizes ,
vehicles, smart phones, home appliances, toys, cameras, medical instruments and
industrial systems, animals, people, buildings, all connected ,all communicating &
sharing information based on stipulated protocols in order to achieve smart
reorganizations, positioning, tracing, safe & control & even personal real time online
monitoring, online upgrade, process control & administration.
The course “Internet of Things” (IoT) achieve utilized in 1999 by British automation
spearhead Kevin Ashton to construe a structure wherein objects within the here and now
might be hooked up to the Internet by sensors Ashton coined the duration as an example
the flexibility of uniting Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) utilized in amalgamated
hand over chains to the Internet as a way to expect and line stock left out the will for
human intervention. Today, the Internet of Things has developed into a well-known
duration for describing scenarios wherein Internet affinity and computing skill join a
number objects, devices, sensors, and everyday items.
While the term “Internet of Things” is relatively new, the concept of combining
computers and networks to monitor and control devices has been around for decades. By
the late 1970s, for example, systems for remotely monitoring meters on the electrical grid
via telephone lines were already in commercial use.

3
CBCT2203
In the 1990s, advances in radio automation allowed “machine–to–machine” (M2M) firm
and industrial solutions for apparatus monitoring and trip to grow to be universal. Many
of those shortly M2M solutions, on the other hand, rest on resolved purpose–built
networks and farm or industry–specific standards,15 in place of on Internet Protocol
(IP)–based networks and Internet standards.
Using IP to hook up devices except computers to the Internet isn't an inventiveness. The
initially Internet “device”—an IP–enabled cinnamon which may be turned off and on to
the Internet—was highlighted at an Internet association in 1990.Over the subsequent
quite a few agedness, more “clothes” were IP–enabled, made up of a soda machine at
Carnegie Mellon University within the US along with an espresso pot inside the Trojan
Room on the University of Cambridge within the UK (whichever remained Internet–
associated in expectation 2001). From the particular funny beginnings, a robust return of
analysis and evolution toward “quick oppose networking nursed start the inspiration for
today’s Internet of Things.

2.0 Charcterictis of Internet of thing (IOT)

Through this task, five features of Iot will be critically discussed and critically and
creatively in creating appropriate justifications and in accordance with the requirements
set. Generally in the rapidly developing education world, both local and foreign students
and students are very concerned about the use of ICT in doing the work. Not only that,
the education world has experienced a very rapid revolution and it can be seen from the
use of various methods and approaches in the process of learning and teaching (R & D)
students.
The IoT is a complex system with a number of characteristics. Its characteristics vary
from one domain to another. Some of the general and key characteristics identified during
the research study are as follows.

4
CBCT2203
2.1.1 Intellincey
The first component in the framework of Carlos Elena-Lenz (2005) is intelligence, the
ingenuity here refers to intelligence in the process of processing in fulfilling a student's
wishes. In addition, according to Rouse, Margeret (2014), he noted that the use of current
equipment or technology including the internet is very helpful in the process of learning
and teaching. In addition to facilitating the instructor in ensuring students understand the
scope and areas taught. Additionally, Seno, Tony (2014) also touches on the IoT in the
education sector very much in giving early exposure to students about the function and
importance of using IoT in life. Besides helping students to understand what they are
doing without trying to bring overloading materials. Just enough with a laptop, tablet, or
cell phone everything is possible only by selecting the required website. For Henns Barr,
Michael and Anthony Massa (2012), the intelligence described in IoT refers to equipment
intelligence either hardriver or software that works well and is able to customize the
software in meeting the needs of students. Consequently, through the four opinions it
refers more to the suitability of equipment, devices, browsers or software in meeting the
needs of the students and is easy in the use of the friendly user in helping students. In
addition to helping students, these components can also be used as a benchmark for
universities in improving quality not only in terms of learning and teaching but also
involving the use of management in the university's daily activities and activities. For
example, using the "tele-conference" method to meet mainly involves outsiders from
campus. This can save you time, as well as the costs of meeting members. They no longer
need to scramble or go somewhere to pursue. For Hendrix (2014), the use of the "tele-
conference" method can change the behavior of the management because of the many
benefits that can be gained by using applications. Exemptions such as time saving and
reducing the risk of delays and avoidance of meeting members are not present at
meetings as it can be used any where.

5
CBCT2203
2.1.2 Connectivity
The second component in this framework is conectivity. Referring to Hendrex (2014),
this connection refers to the ability of devices to provide and receive information
anywhere without any problems. Individuals who are students are very concerned about
the ability to access the internet in helping to find information. Likewise with faculty at
university. In addition, For Henns Barr, Michael and Anthony Massa (2012), in his book
expressing the relationship in IoT more to the ability of IoT to provide services related to
the needs of individuals and communities. In addition to maintaining privacy and putting
privacy as a priority. This means that in helping students and the university in daily
affairs or activities, safety-related information, it is placed as a priority in ensuring the
user is free of any harm or harm following the information contained therein.

2.1.3 Large Scale

The third component is capable of being used in large scale. This refers to the number of
users that can be connected. It blames one of the most important components in IoT. This
is because besides assisting in individual life, it is also able to connect between one
individual to another person or one community with another community group (Seno and
Tony, 2014) In the world of higher education, the availability of software in connecting
many students with teachers is one of the ways in which students are always on the right
track in making assignments. Additionally, Carlos Elena - Lenz (2014) adds the ability to
use on a large scale. The ability to manage the growing number of uses especially among
students is also seen as an indicator that can be adopted into a barometer to create a high-
tech campus while improving the quality of education services provided. Seno, Tony
(2014), also provides an example in the education world as a group study is no longer an
impossible matter even though students and teachers are far from each other. With smart
devices and software it is able to connect students and they are able to organize learning
groups in addition to changing opinions as well as discussing the topics they are studying.

2.1.4 Expressing
6
CBCT2203
The ability to express is the ability of the relationship between the individual's needs to
be expressed in the realm of reality. Additionally, it also means creating a product
capable of communicating wisely with the real world (Carlos Elena-Lenz, 2014). As a
product that helps students and the general public, the ability of IoT devices or equipment
to adapt technology with current developments. This can be seen easily as virtual learning
methods such as my VLE created at Open University (OUM). eg web site enhancement
in ensuring that it meets the needs and requirements of students in surfing the web
besides helping students in learning prose. Among other examples, is the website of
University of Herdforshire in the United Kingdom where the site can be edited and self-
composed by the student (personalize) according to their own password. This is a long-
term goal in ensuring that they meet the needs of the students according to their own
tastes. Aside from not pursuing the ultimate goal in helping students to provide assistance
throughout the learning process at the university.

2.1.5 Safety
This is the most important component in the use of IoT. It is placed as a top priority in
addition to providing services to consumers. This is because IoT requires sensitive
information such as identity card no, personal information and others. This is particularly
important in ensuring that misuse of information is available throughout the IoT.
According to Seno, Tony (2014), the importance of safeguarding security is very heavy
throughout the use of IoT because through the personal information contained therein,
various possibilities are possible. Although the use of IoT among students it still contains
sensitive information which is not only harmful to the individual but is able to invite
various bad implications to society. Examples are such tasks based on individual
opinions, which if published to the public. It is capable of giving a bad idea to the
individual who wrote it or to the subject being studied. It is able to invite dangers to the
students and the surrounding communities. Because academic writing is not something
that can be used (valid) for publication without permission from the university or senate
(Henns barr, michieal, Anthony Massa, 2012).

CBCT2203
3.0 Justification of Internet of thing (IoT) in university environment

In general, Malaysia's use of internet and technology is no longer foreign. Almost 80% of
the day-to-day affairs involve the use of internet regardless of time. The importance and
dependence on the internet is undeniable (Mullins, 2013). Similarly, students,
dependencies and students' needs in pursuing higher education are challenging. With the
help of "internet of thinking" a little bit can help students in the daily challenges
including in terms of completion of tasks, as well as daily life activities. For students,
there are many advantages gained from using IoT. Nevertheless, for the universities of
various implications affected by the widespread use of IoT.

3.1.1 Justification 1: Online Studies

Challenges in higher education in which the vast IOT development does not require more
students to come to university and attend lectures, tutorials and quizzes. This is because
many universities start offering online courses (on-Line). This means no more classes or
face-to-face learning sessions are conducted. This can be seen from 2 perspectives, from
the perspective of the students, as well as the perspective of the university.
For students it is a good thing that they can further their studies in whatever field they are
interested in while doing daily tasks as usual. In addition, online learning is cost-effective
in terms of tuition fees compared to those who are studying in the campus where they are
required to incur direct costs ie tuition fees and indirect costs such as travel costs, cost of
living and daily costs such as meals and drink. This is because online learning only
requires equipment with internet facilities which cost 75% cheaper than on campus
(Rouse and Margeret, 2014). In addition, online learning is also seen to be time
consuming. This is because students can follow their studies wherever they are by just
browsing the websites they need. Various information, modules of study are available at
this website. So students can access their various learning materials using the right search
engine at any time (Carlos Elena-Lenz, 2005). Besides their work they can also pursue
education at the same time without affecting their daily lives.
Looking at the perception of the university, according to Carlie Firestone (2012) in the
era of circulation, it has come to a point where higher education centers take steps to

8
CBCT2203
ensure that academic and technological developments evolve with the current
requirements. This is no longer the time to educate students with purely knowledge, it has
come their time to implement and generate knowledge through what they have
implemented. Additionally, Alex Halavais (2008) added that the current learning pattern
has changed drastically. The process of learning and teaching is not only in the classroom
but in the real world. Because her real world learning can produce and train more
qualified and ready-to-graduate graduates in the real world.
Additionally, the creation of online courses dampens the growth of higher education
centers and provides financial implications in ensuring existing ones to operate well. In
addition, it also has a devastating effect on the country's economy, especially in the
education sector. This is supported by, Donald G Barnes (2013), a professor at Guangxi
University. Youth said that demand for the education sector was high. But in terms of
cost of study, the cost of online study is seen as more economical than current students,
many who choose to study online. Additionally, the university is forced to perform or
revise the existing modules in ensuring online learning modules meet current market
demands as well as generate critical thinking among students. This is a challenge to the
university where through online learning is difficult to create a focused module because
basically today's world is vast. Various information available in the internet and mass
media are able to attract modules edited by the school and able to raise students' doubts
about the taught module (Rouse and Margeret, 2014).

3.1.2 Justification 2: "Internet of Thing" Improves Education Quality.

To pursue higher education requires consideration of several factors such as cost of study,
location, field recognition as well as job opportunities after graduation. All these factors
are closely related to the quality of education offered by the school. Currently, private
universities are also the choice of students as the areas offered by IPTS sometimes better
understand current needs. There is no doubt that there is still an oblique view from some
of the parties who think the study in IPTS is for those who have bad test results
However, the era of globalization without the borders of study gap between public and
private universities is getting smaller. Competition is increasingly fierce, with graduates
from successful IPTS. It all depends on the quality of education offered. Touching on the

9
CBCT2203
quality of internet use of education in a vital way in the educational process is able to
provide high quality education to students. It is able to provide information needed by
students. In addition to providing information, IoT is also able to connect students with
other students. In addition, Iot also serves to give students the opportunity to explore their
studies everywhere. In addition, Iot is also a facilitator in solving the problems faced by a
few students (Carlos Elena-Lenz, 2005). Like the use of statistical related software to
help students in solving statistical issues. Similarly, search engines help students in
finding relevant information. Among the popular search engines Google Scholar,
EBSCO, Cinahl and others. This can be seen as a way of improving the quality of
education that is very positive to students.
On behalf of the university, the use of IoT can also be seen to help improve student
management while improving the quality of education (John Tay, 2000). Today, some
higher education centers begin to use the IoT approach, such as applying fitness devices
to record student health indicators or tracking temperature readings in laboratory
equipment and sending notifications when certain conditions are met. Additionally, the
database connectors with student devices wherein students will be reminded of the task
schedule, lesson schedule, assignment and the institution can also send reminders and
warnings to their students and each message can be customized personally as required by
the student. In addition, by using several elements of network connectivity, the instructor
can also digitally illustrate students to get involved in the lesson and be able to complete
the assignment given to them. Additionally, in creating sophisticated campuses and
modifications of some needs to be made, eg campuses need to combine the information
they gather from devices and from other sources to analyze and predict student academic
progress and identify the cause of the problem and the risks.

4.0 conclusion

The existence of IoT devices is a technology that we can not deny anymore.
Unknowingly, we have use it almost everyday. although there are constraints in

10
CBCT2203
practicing IoT such as financial costs, as well as ease of accessing the internet, it should
not be an excuse for not accepting reforms that both bring benefits to all, especially to
students. With the use of IoT as one of the simplest ways in student life, everything is
possible. As Kevin Ashton (2009) says that the use of the internet is a "next big things" in
the future.
