You are on page 1of 3

Welcome back to my channel Salmon’s on duty and for those who are not familiar with me, I am

a streamer and I play games for a living. You guys can call me by my real name Minh Quang.
It’s been a long time since my last live stream and I know y’all wondered where I have been,
what I have done. Well, the answer is that I’m currently working on a gigantic project with my
team to establish an academy where people will be trained to become professional streamers
from scratch. This gonna be extremely exciting and I’d like to take this opportunity to share with
you guys some basic information about this job, some basic principles that guys need to know
about streamers.
So, without any further ado, let’s dive right into it. Today’s talk will revolve around three major
questions: what is a streamer? Is streaming a good career, and what are some adversities that
streamers may face?
First of all, let’s find out what is a streamer supposed to be? Technically saying, a streamer is
someone who broadcasts his/herself through a live stream while doing a certain action on the
internet as it’s happening without any waiting or downloads. Additionally, streamers also archive
or save footage from live streams so people who missed the stream can watch it anytime later at
their convenience. They make good use of online platforms to deliver their content to viewers.
Some ambitious streamers even cross-stream on multiples platforms at once to garner more
followers quickly. As you guys can see on the screen, here are the three livestreaming platforms
that reign supreme at the moment. Twitch, Youtube, and Facebook, respectively. To put it into
layman’s terms, streamers are online entertainers. Just like any other job, streamers need a place
to do their things right and where would it be? Would you guys like to make a guess? For the
most part, streamers’ bedroom is their office unless you are one of the most sought-after
streamers, you can surely have a separate room as your office, unnecessarily your bedroom.
When it comes to decoration, obviously that each streamer has different tastes so there’s no
chance that you can see two identical streaming rooms, but to get the daily business running
without hassles, to make sure that streaming setup is as visually appealing and clean
sounding as possible, there are some essentials that every streamer has in common. At the top of
the list, it is a computer or a laptop, it pretty much depends on your budget to choose whether a
computer or a laptop, which one is affordable for you, and in the second place, we have webcam,
microphone and headset. Not to mention about pop filter, lighting kit, green screen backdrop,
capture card, you name it. Having said that, streamers’ office is not totally fixed. It could be
anywhere, at a restaurant, at a hotel or at the backyard of their house. They just need a few pieces
of equipment to do the trick, namely a smartphone and an earphone. Now, let’s talk about the
genre. There are over 50 streaming genres and I think it would be a waste of time to list them all,
so I’ll just tell you the two main categories. The first one is gaming content. This is the most
popular form of streaming and the majority of streamers make their living off of it. It can be
varied from tutorials, walkthroughs to live speed runs. The second category goes by many
names, IRL, creative or non-gaming content. At first, many streaming sites prohibited non-
gaming live streams as they thought it would harm the quality of the content on their sites but the
demand for non-gaming content grew so it has become as popular as the gaming content hands
down. Some familiar non-gaming contents that you guys may have heard of: Mukbang, ASMR
and talk shows - the one that I am doing right now.
So, we’ve just addressed the first question, shall we move on to the second one? Is streaming a
good career? Judging from what has happened to me as a streamer, that’s definitely a yes.
Imagine getting to do anything that you love for hours on end and getting paid to do so. I mean
like who doesn’t want it right? The best part is that your income will not just come from 1 but
many sources – donations, subscriptions, sponsors, and advertising. If you’re lucky enough, you
can make a killing like those crazy successful streamers out there, Ninja, Shroud or Mixi gaming.
On top of that, there is so much flexibility in being a streamer since you can take off anytime you
want and you don’t have a boss telling you how many days you are allowed to get sick.
Basically, you’re your own boss and you have the anatomy to decide anything without asking for
permission or obeying certain rules. In addition, being a streamer means you have a higher
chance to get noticed and to become an influential person on the internet. Eventually, it’ll
propelled you to stardom and help you to garner cult-following, build your own community, your
own realm, where your voice is matter the most and by leveraging this point, you can earn more
than just money, it is the credibility and the ticket to open the gateway to the different career path
that you are dreaming of being part of someday. Perhaps a PR representative, a commentator for
various esports live events or a streamers academy’s founder like me. Anything that strikes your
fancy can be achieved.
But that is just the tip of the iceberg. As much as I enjoy streaming and derive pleasure from it,
there are certain aspects of this occupation that are leave a little to be desired just like any other
line of work. So, what are the adversities that streamers may encounter? First and foremost, it is
about the content. As a streamer, a content creator, you have to continuously come up with novel
ideas, keep it fresh and keep things up to date because if your content gets old, stale and
obsolete, people will dip out and you can very easily get left behind. Nobody likes the same
thing over and over again. Viewers crave for new things so that they can satiate their appetites
for entertainment. But always having to create something new can be a bit stressful and
overwhelming so this is definitely a hard graft for lots of streamers. Another thing that streamers
have to take into their consideration is persistence. First day streaming is gotta be a hell of a
great day and you don’t even pay much attention to how many viewers you have but what if on
the tenth day and you still have no viewers at all or just a few of them. It’s gonna be very off-
putting and you may feel like you want to quit it immediately. This is very true to all streamers,
even successful ones, we all had been through a very rough time. So, you’ll need to be persistent
and dedicated to your streaming schedule. Stick to it and plan ahead what are you going to do in
your live streams. Be patient and your hard work will pay off soon. The last and also the most
challenging obstacle for streamers is being unique. As the streaming industry has seen a large
rise in popularity and become increasingly saturated, the competition between streamers is more
intense than ever before so it requires streamers to put a lot of effort into it. Each streamer will
have to strive to build their very own image to stand out from the rest and to attract the viewers.
In some cases, being unique can cause people to have different perspectives on you. It could be
positive and also negative, so you’ll need to brave yourself, be ready to handle with hate
comments and criticism. So being unique is no small task.
And that brings us to the end of today’s livestream. Now we’ll have an overall look at what I’ve
been talking about over the last 15 minutes. First, I told you what a streamer is, then I explained
why streaming is a good career and finally, I talked about the adversities that streamers may face.
And that’s it for today, I really hope this helps you know better about streamers. If you guys have
any questions, please let me know in the comments section. Thank you very much for tuning in.
See you guys in my next live stream. Peace out.
