Book Review:

Men from Mars and Women from Venus

John Gray wrote the book "Men from Mars and Women from
Venus" and this book highlights how men and women seem to be
from different worlds. John used the term "Planets" to explain the
fact that how men and women are different in attitudes and
behaviors. According to John Gray., men are from Mars and
Women are from Venus which have different rules, different
lifestyles and different ways of communicating with each other.
This book teaches us how to maintain our patience level in front of
our partner. It teaches how to stay calm and handle the situation
when the other one is acting with very low patience level. This
book consists of practical examples of people's life which if you
apply in your life your life becomes easier and understandings can
be build. The main thing that John was trying to deliver is that we
must respect our differences and give space to each other. We must
not tighten the world around each other. By doing this, our
relationships can be improved. John called men "Martians" and
women "Venusians". In the book it is said that Martians value
power, competency, achievement and efficiency. They are always
trying to prove themselves, to prove their ability , skills and power.
Their sense of self is defined through their ability to achieve
results. Venusians have different values. They value love,
communication, beauty and relationships. They spend a lot of time
supporting, helping and nurturing one another. Their sense of self
is defined through their feelings and the quality of their
relationships. They experience fulfilment through haring and
relating. Everything on Venus about Venusians reflect these
values. Building highways and buildings are no interest to
Venusians rather than this, they prefer living together in harmony,

community, and loving cooperation. Relationships have more

importance than work in their lives. Communications are of more
importance. To share their personal feeling is much more important
than achieving goals and success. Talking and relating to one
another is a source of fulfillment for them. Instead of goal oriented,
women are relationship oriented. They are more concerned with
expressing their goodness, love and caring. Venusians are very
intuitive . They have developed this ability through centuries of
anticipating the needs of others. They pride themselves in being
considerate of the needs and feelings of others. A sign of great love
is to offer help assistance to another Venusians without being
asked. On the other hand if talking about Martians., they are more
solution oriented. If something is fixed and working their motive is
not to change it. Their instinct is to leave it alone if it is working.
According to them a thing doesn't needs to be fixed if it is not
broken. Men are motivated when they feel needed while women
are motivated when they are cherished and loved. Men need to
overcome their resistance to giving love while women must
overcome their resistance to receiving it. Men cherish the type of
love that is trusting, accepting and appreciative. While women
need the kind of love that is caring, understanding and respectful.
Love is always magical and everlasting if we remember our
differences. Women complain mostly that the men do not listen
and men always think that the women are always trying to change
them. Men tend to find a solution when they face a problem but
women's tendency is to find someone to talk through the problem.
John Gray in the book says that the most common relationship
problems between men and women are because of psychological
differences between these two sexes. This book helps to understand
each other and to overcome the misunderstandings in the
relationships. I think that this book is helpful in solving the
relationships that are overwhelmed by misunderstandings and both
man and woman are dropping their feelings for each other by every
passing day. In my opinion every growing teenager should read
this book so that in his/her upcomming life, he/she may not face

any type of relationship misunderstandings. The book explains the

feelings and psyche of both men and women and the solution to
handle each other. Men and women should value each other and
should respect each other’s opinion and should listen what the
other person is trying to tell them. Instead of fighting and throwing
a fit, people should care and respect each other and try to solve the
matter in a respectful manner.
