As a way to promote and develop Islamic law in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are
pleased to inform you that the Association of Indonesian Islamic Law Lecturers (ADHII) and Center of
Islam and Islamic Law Studies (LKIHI) of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia will organize the
5th International Conference on Islam and Islamic Law in Indonesia (ICILI) will be held on 17th - 18th
November 2020 with the main theme “The Role of Islamic Laws and Islamic Institutions in Dealing
with Global Disaster”.

1. Background
Organizing Committee of
the 5th International Conference on Islamic Law in Indonesia (ICILI)
The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the entire world since the beginning of 2020 has significantly
impacted the world community. With the increasing number of cases and the absence of a vaccine, the
COVID-19 pandemic has made all society worldwide try to find a way for humans to continue life
productively in daily life. Thus, various new habits emerge as adaptations in life in society, both in
activities related to fellow humans (Hablumminannas) and in activities related to Allah SWT
(hablumminallah).
The Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on its website stated that COVID-19 had had
an impact on society, including the scarcity of goods; social disorganization and dysfunction, which
constitute prejudice and discrimination, and the inability of the community to carry out social functions
due to fear of COVID-19; Criminal acts; weakening of the tourism sector; and increasing poverty and
unemployment rates.
To address the emerging issues, ADHII and LKIHI intend to hold the 5th International Conference of
Islamic Law in Indonesia, which in 2020 will be conducted online. This conference is expected to be able
to discuss how Islamic law can respond to and answer world problems that are currently occurring,
especially concerning global disasters such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this time the
International Conference of Islamic Law in Indonesia presented the theme “The Role of Islamic Laws and
Islamic Institutions in Dealing with Globar Disaster (TBD)”.
2. Purposes:
a. As an annual forum to promote and develop Islamic law in Indonesia through the approach of Islamic
law;
b. As an annual forum to increase the research and writing capacity of Islamic teachers and researchers
in Indonesia;
c. As an annual forum to strengthen the networking and friendship of Islamic law teachers and
researchers in Indonesia;
d. Making the academic community known in international forums capable of publishing research and
writings relating to Islamic law as part of the academic process in the Revolutionary era.
