• Unit 6: Linear Models and

Tables

Overview:
Unit 6 will be taught using a new approach which
allows students to move from topic to topic at their
own pace and demonstrate mastery before moving
on. This means you will have some choice when it
comes to what activities you will complete. Some
activities will be mandatory, such as the "goals,"
and others are optional in the case of additional
practice. See your teacher if you have any
specific questions about what to do at any
time.

The Plan:
Unit 6 will be broken down into 5 goals. Each goal represents the
standards/topics covered during the unit. Each goal will count as a
formative grade. If you do not master a particular goal, you will be directed
to additional practice and will have a second attempt at showing
mastery. Completing and turning in goals is mandatory. Any student who
misses a deadline or fails to turn in a goal, will be recommended for the next
Friday Academy. Unit 6 will end with a Summative Test over all 5 goals
from the Unit.

Grading:
You will receive a total of 5 formative grades based
on completing your goals and 1 summative
grade. The goals should be completed on your
packet and turned in no later than the due date.
Goal 1: Construct a Scatter Plot (Due Monday,
May 10th)
Goal 2: Interpret a Scatter Plot (Due Wednesday,
May 12th)
Goal 3: Line of Best Fit (Due Friday, May 14th)
Goal 4: Construct a two-way Frequency Table (Due
Tuesday, May 18th)
Goal 5: Interpret a two-way Frequency Table (Due
Thursday, May 20th)
Unit 6 Summative: FRIDAY, MAY 21!

Standards:
SP1: Constuct and interpret scatter plots for bivariate measurement
data to investigate patterns of association between two
quantities. Describe patterns such as clustering, outliers, positive
or negative association, linear association, and nonlinear
association.
SP2: Know that straight lines are widely used to model relationships
between two quantitative variables. For scatter plots that suggest a
linear association, informally fit a straight line, and informally assess
the model fit by judging the closeness of the data points to the line.
SP3: Use the equation of a linear model to solve problems in the context of
bivariate measurement data, interpreting the slope and intercept.
SP4: Understand that patterns of association can also be seen in bivariate
categorical data by displaying frequencies and relative frequencies in a two-
way table. a) Construct and interpret a two way table summarizing data on
two categorical variables collected from the same subjects. b) Use relative
frequencies calculated for rows or columns to describe possible association
between the two variables.
