How to Study the Bible

2 Timothy 2:15

We often know that we should be doing something, but often

we aren't instructed on how to do it. Tonight we'll look at
some specifics to know how we can study the Bible.

1. READ IT (Study....)

a. Repeatedly

b. Prayerfully
1. Guidance and Understanding
2. Personal Application

c. Carefully

d. Purposefully
1. Learn
2. Grow

e. Obediently

2. Find the Background material

A. Who Wrote It?

B. Who was written to?

C. Where was it written from?

3. Gain Accurate Interpretation (...rightly divide...)

A. Regeneration ~ An essential experience

“The ability to grasp spiritual truth requires spiritual
receptiveness”.

B. Holy Spirit ~ An essential aid

Holy Spirit does not render study needless, but makes it
effective.
Holy Spirit will not lead someone in contradiction of the
principles of the written Word of God.

C. Diligence in Study ~ An essential effort

No spiritual experience replaces the diligence in finding the

meaning of the text. You can't just pray about the meaning.

Nothing will substitute hard work in Bible study when it comes

to Christian growth. We don't grow if we don't have
nourishment...fact of life. Nourishment requires effort, we
have to satisfy that hunger with the only thing that truly
satisfies...the word of God. We aren't talking spending hours
a day...time is not the issue, substance is the issue. What are
you getting out of your study? Are you studying? When you
do, be sure to do so correctly.
