BCS Certificate in IT

 
This is the foundation level of Higher Education Qualifications.
This level is the academic equivalent to Year 1 of a UK University honours Degree and is recognized
by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as level 4.
 
The certificate in IT focuses on the following core modules:
 

1. Information Systems
2. Software development
3. Computer and Network Technology

BCS recommends a minimum of 200 hours study per module and the course culminates in a 2 hour
written exam focusing on all three core modules.
 
BCS Diploma in IT
 
This is the Diploma Level of Higher Education Qualifications.
This level is the academic equivalent to Year 2 of a UK University honours Degree and is recognized
by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as level 5.
By beginning the Diploma in IT level course BCS assumes knowledge of theCertificate in IT level
modules and focuses on the following:

1. Professional Issues in Information Systems Practice (Core Module)

 
Students have to choose any three options from the following list:
 

1. Computer Networks
2. Database Systems
3. IT Project Management
4. Object Oriented Programming
5. Systems Analysis
6. Principles of Internet  Technologies
7. IT Service Management
8. Software Engineering
9. Systems Design
10. Principles of User Interface Design

 
In additional to the modules, students have to do a project.
BCS recommends a minimum of 225 hours study per module. The course culminates in a 2 hour
written exam focusing on the one core module and each of the three optional modules.
 
BCS Professional Graduate Diploma in IT
 
This level is the academic equivalent to Year 3 of a UK University Honours Degree.
This course is recognized by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 6.
By beginning the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT level course BCS assumes knowledge of the
Certificate in IT and appropriate Diploma in IT level modules and focuses on the following:
 
Students have to choose any four of the following modules:
 

1. Advanced Database Management System


2. Management Information Systems
3. Software Engineering 2
4. Computer service Management
5. Distributed and Parallel Systems
6. Knowledge Based Systems
7. Network Information Systems
8. Programming Paradigms
9. Realizing the User Interface
10. System design Methods
11. Web Engineering

 
BCS recommends a minimum of 250 hours study per module and the course culminates in a 3 hour
written exam focusing on four of the above modules of students’ choice
 
In additional to the modules, students have to do a professional project. Students need to write a
project proposal and get it approved by the BCS. Based on that proposal, students need to write
the project in about 5000 words for Diploma level and 10,000 words for Professional Graduate
Diploma Level.
The Professional Project may be undertaken at Diploma in IT level or at Professional Graduate
Diploma in IT level, depending on the qualification aim of the candidate. Any candidate who has
passed the Professional Project at Diploma in IT level cannot resubmit the same project at
Professional Graduate Diploma in IT level. Exceptionally, a candidate who submits a project at
Professional Graduate Diploma in IT level may be offered a pass at Diploma in IT level. If the
candidate accepts the pass at Diploma in IT level it will not then be possible to resubmit the
project at Professional Graduate Diploma in IT level.
  
Entry requirements
 
There are no formal academic entry requirements. However, before beginning any level of
Professional Examinations, BCS recommends that you are typically educated to UK GCE A-Level
standard.
In the case of overseas qualifications, candidates should have completed Higher Secondary or
Intermediate level qualification.
Candidates should be at least 19 years old.
English Language IELTS overall score 5.
You are able to begin the examinations at any of the three levels. However, the level at which you
begin will only be awarded provided that you have passed or been exempt from the preceding
level.
 
Course Duration:

The course duration is one year each.
