Direct Injection Adapters

Remove Direct Injection Adapters

Start By:

a. remove fuel injection nozzles

FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance
of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be
prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any
compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to
"TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and
supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the coolant from the cylinder heads into a suitable container for storage
or disposal.

2. Separate the push rods and rocker arms with Tool (A). Move the rocker arms
to one side.

3. Put identification marks on valve bridges (1) as to their location on the head.
Remove valve bridges (1).

4. Loosen adapters (2) with the correct Tool (B) or (C). Remove the adapters
from the cylinder head.

Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Put liquid soap on the bore of the cylinder head and on seal (1).

2. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of adapter (2). Install

adapter (2) and gasket (3) in the cylinder head. Tighten the adapters to the
correct torque as follows:

a. Use Tool (B) and tighten 2W-9757 Adapters to a torque of 205 ± 14 N·m
(150 ± 10 lb ft), 4W-5733 Adapters to a torque of 135 ± 7 N·m (100 ± 10 lb
ft).

b. Use Tool (C) and tighten 7W-1902 Adapters to a torque of 205 ± 14 N·m
(150 ± 10 lb ft).

3. Install valve bridges (4) in their correct locations/

4. Connect the push rods and rocker arms with Tool (A).

5. Check the level of the coolant in the engine.
