Overview
The unique design of this cyclonic desander allows client to change from cyclonic type to filter type
in just changing the insert and some guided vanes. The multi-use cyclonic vessel has been designed
with a tangential inlet nozzle which mates with the standard cyclonic internals. The multi-size filter
elements also can use this tangential inlet to its advantage as the filter internal is fitted with a
concentric outer cylinder, termed the Swirl Tube, which encloses the central filter screen. The
annular volume between these two concentric cylinders is termed the Swirl Zone (defined by inside
the outer cylinder and outside the inner filter screen). The process flow enters the vessel via the
tangential inlet and routed into the swirl zone which creates a cyclonic flow around the filter screen.
Large solids particles are transported radially outwards to the Swirl Tube wall by the centripetal
forces created by the swirling flow and exit at the open bottom edge of the Swirl Tube and settle in
the Vessel’s integrated solids accumulator. The swirl tube therefore provides a bulk pre-treatment
element which significantly reduces the build-up of solids on the outer surface of the filter screen
thereby increasing the solids handling capacity of the filter while reducing the required purge
frequency.
